For organizers, Indonesia isn't merely a stopover. Public enthusiasm was the primary reason Jakarta was selected as a tour destination.
“We can feel the nation's energy and see football is truly a passion for Indonesians. From neighborhood tournaments to massive support for the national team, this undeniable passion is evident,” stated Selman Careaga, President of ASEAN and South Pacific for The Coca-Cola Company, at Jakarta International Convention Centre on Thursday.
Coca-Cola is a major World Cup sponsor, including for the 2026 World Cup, and has long participated in the trophy's global journey.
The trophy's Jakarta visit underscores Indonesia's position as a passionate football market, despite never having won the world title.
Local government enthusiastically welcomed this moment. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung believes displaying the authentic World Cup trophy holds special emotional value for the public.
“We provide full support and backing. Hopefully this event allows Jakartans, even though Indonesia has never won the World Cup, to see the real trophy,” said Pramono.
Beyond symbolism and nostalgia, the trophy's presence is seen as a Sports Economy momentum. Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir emphasized private sector involvement's importance in national sports development.
“We encourage all major events in Jakarta and other regions, as regional development requires not just government expenditure but also corporate investment in Indonesia,” stated Erick.
