Jude Bellingham Becomes the Hero as England Pull Off a Dramatic Comeback and Qualify for the 2026 World Cup Semi-Finals.

England national team secured their spot in the 2026 World Cup semi-finals after defeating Norway 2-1 in extra time during the quarter-final match held at Miami Stadium, United States on Sunday, 12 July 2026.

Jude Bellingham emerged as the Three Lions' match winner, scoring a brace that turned the game around after England had fallen behind early on. Meanwhile, Andreas Schjelderup scored Norway's only goal at the start of the match.

This victory sends Thomas Tuchel's squad through to the final four. England will now await their next opponent, which will be the winner of the match between Argentina and Switzerland.

Norway immediately threw a shock within just two minutes of kick-off. Andreas Schjelderup successfully converted a chance from the right side of the penalty box. His strike first hit the far post before bouncing past Jordan Pickford into the net, giving Norway an early 1-0 lead.

Trailing from the very start of the game forced England to ramp up their attacking intensity. Numerous chances were created, before the equaliser finally arrived in first half stoppage time.

Starting with a pull-back cross from Anthony Gordon, Jude Bellingham calmly controlled the ball inside the penalty area before firing an accurate finish that Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland was unable to react to.

Just before half time, Harry Kane had actually put England ahead, only for the goal to be ruled out as the England captain was caught in an offside position.

As the second half got underway, Norway threatened once again and found the back of the net through Torbjorn Heggem in the 55th minute from a corner kick situation.

However, the referee disallowed the goal following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review. Replays confirmed that Erling Haaland had committed a foul on Elliot Anderson in the build-up to the goal.

Neither side was able to find another goal by the end of normal time, meaning the match proceeded into extra time.

England finally sealed the win early in the first period of extra time. Jude Bellingham scored his second goal of the game, reacting quickly to tuck away the rebound from Morgan Rogers' shot that Nyland had failed to hold on to cleanly. This goal put the Three Lions 2-1 in front.

In the 96th minute, England were initially awarded a penalty after Eberechi Eze was judged to have been fouled by Oscar Bobb inside the box. This decision was also overturned however, after VAR reviews concluded no foul had been committed.

Norway pushed hard for an equaliser for the remainder of the match. Despite putting the England defence under sustained pressure on several occasions, the Three Lions backline remained disciplined right until the final whistle.

This 2-1 victory confirms England's place alongside France and Spain in the 2026 World Cup semi-finals. The Three Lions will now await the result of the Argentina vs Switzerland fixture to confirm their next opponent.
