Lisandro Martinez silences Man Utd legends critics with performance in Manchester derby.

Lisandro Martinez chose to answer Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt's harsh criticism in the most convincing way: a dominant performance on the pitch. The Manchester United defender became a central figure as the Red Devils defeated Manchester City 2-0 at Old Trafford, simultaneously neutralizing the Premier League's goal machine, Erling Haaland.

Ahead of the Manchester Derby, Martinez had been targeted by sharp comments from these two former United midfielders. 

Nicky Butt doubted his ability to handle Haaland, describing their duel as "a dad chasing his toddler home from school." Paul Scholes even added that Haaland would score then "throw Martinez into the net."

But all those predictions crumbled on the Old Trafford grass. Martinez displayed discipline, aggression, and intense concentration, leaving Haaland minimal space and opportunities. 

The City striker was even substituted early by Pep Guardiola, a rare sight confirming Martinez's effectiveness in United's defensive core.

Post-match, Martinez didn't shy away from controversy. He addressed the criticism from Scholes and Butt directly.

"Honestly, he can say whatever he wants. I've told him, if he wants to say something to me, he can come wherever he wants. To my house, anywhere. I don't care," Martinez stated to Sky Sports regarding Scholes and Butt's earlier doubts about his capability against Haaland.

This remark reinforced Martinez's character—tough, blunt, and fearless, mirroring his playing style. However, tensions eased when Scholes responded jokingly via Instagram: 

He wrote, "Someone just had a great game, I'm so happy for you. Tea, no sugar @lisandromartinezzz."

Behind the banter, Manchester United were reportedly displeased with Scholes and Butt's podcast statements. 

The club felt the comments mocked Martinez rather than offering constructive match analysis, especially before a high-stakes derby.

Martinez emphasized his respect for club legends but believed criticism should be delivered openly and responsibly. 

He noted many speak easily on TV, but the dynamic changes face-to-face. His focus, Martinez stressed, remains on personal performance and team interests.

The 27-year-old Argentina national team defender also reaffirmed his loyalty to United, pledging to give everything for the club until his last day while disregarding unconstructive external noise.

The victory over City also marked a new era at Old Trafford. It was Michael Carrick's first match as Manchester United manager. 

Appointed just days before the derby, Carrick made an immediate impact—something Martinez felt on the field.

According to Martinez, Carrick deeply understands Manchester United's essence from his long association with the club as both player and coach. 

He viewed this change as timely, arriving when the team faced difficulties and needed fresh direction—with the Manchester derby proving the perfect stage to silence all doubts.
