Several countries have successfully maintained political stability, low crime rates, and social harmony—factors forming the foundation of a comfortable tourist experience.
Based on the latest Global Peace Index (GPI) report and 2026 Travel Safety trends, countries in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region continue to dominate the list of the most peaceful places on Earth.
These regions are consistently assessed as maintaining a balance between development, social welfare, and security stability.
The same report places the United States at 128th out of 163 countries. Meanwhile, Russia held the position as the least peaceful place on Earth last year. This contrast underscores how security has now become a key differentiator in the global tourism map.
The Global Peace Index determines a country's ranking using 23 factors, including external conflict, deaths from internal conflict, military expenditure, and weapons imports.
This comprehensive approach provides a complete picture of how safe a country is for both its citizens and tourists.
Nevertheless, the report also notes there are still many destinations with high levels of peace. In fact, some countries in the top 10 have improved their peace scores since 2024. This is a positive signal for tourists planning long-term travel.
