Volcanoes are among the landscapes that attract tourists like magnets. However, this beauty always coexists with risk. This is where Indonesian Tourism is tested: delivering adventure without compromising safety.

Addressing that challenge, the Ministry of Tourism confirms it has prepared various mitigation measures for eruption-prone volcanic Tourist Destinations.

Mountains classified as high-risk include Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, Sinabung, Marapi, Semeru, Raung, and Ibu. These names also appear in the British Government's travel warning.

The Indonesian government is responding by strengthening prevention systems, emergency handling, and enhancing tourism service quality.

Efforts include urging regional governments, destination managers, and tourism industry players to develop and implement comprehensive mitigation Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Additionally, maintaining close coordination with BMKG (Meteorology Agency), BNPB/BPBD (Disaster Management Agencies), Basarnas (Search and Rescue), TNI/Polri (Military/Police), ESDM (Energy Ministry), and local security forces.

This ensures tourist destinations have clear plans for facing potential natural disasters or security incidents.

For tourists, this system is designed to keep volcanic landscape experiences within safe parameters—from climbing routes and information centers to integrated evacuation procedures.

All parties are urged to implement CHSE principles (Cleanliness, Health, Safety, Environmental Sustainability) and conduct risk assessments at tourism activity hubs.

Meanwhile, Indonesia takes seriously the British Government's advisory to its citizens.

The warning constitutes high vigilance for UK tourists Traveling to various countries including Indonesia, specifically for active Mountain Tourism volcanoes.

The UK advises avoiding tourism activities near active volcanoes like Lewotobi Laki-Laki (NTT), Sinabung (North Sumatra), Marapi (West Sumatra), Semeru (East Java), Ruang (North Sulawesi), and Ibu (North Maluku).

However, the UK government clarifies this warning is specific and doesn't apply to all Indonesian regions.

Indonesia urges tourists to follow prohibitions and instructions from local authorities—especially regional governments, BMKG, BNPB/BPBD, and security forces.

Tourists are also reminded to exercise caution during the Rainy Season, often accompanied by Extreme Weather triggering floods, landslides, and high waves.
