Two English Premier League giants, Manchester United and Chelsea, both ended 2025 with a draw. Not only the score drew attention, but also the post-match comments reflecting different problems. MU lacked creativity on the pitch, while Chelsea missed their manager in the press conference room.

Amorin Says MU Lacked Creativity

Manchester United failed to capitalize on a home match against bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers. Playing at Old Trafford early on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 WIB, the Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw.

MU took the lead first through Joshua Zirkzee, but Wolves equalized via Ladislav Krejci's header just before halftime.

MU manager Ruben Amorim admitted his team performed below standard, especially in terms of creativity and connections between the lines.

“We struggled throughout the match. We lacked creativity, and we knew this would be a different game from the one against Newcastle,” said Amorim, quoted by the BBC.

Besides lacking creativity, Amorim also highlighted his players' poor connection with each other.

This draw prevented MU from breaking into the top four of the Standings at year's end.

They remain stuck in sixth place with 30 points, simultaneously ending Wolverhampton's losing streak that had lasted since early October.

Instead of a sweet year-end closer, this match felt like two points dropped for MU, especially since the opponent was the league's bottom-placed team.

Maresca Absent from Press Room

Like MU, Chelsea also drew in the 19th week of the Premier League. Playing at Stamford Bridge at the same time, The Blues were held 2-2 by Bournemouth.

Chelsea's two goals came from Cole Palmer via the penalty spot and Enzo Fernandez. Bournemouth's replies were scored by David Brooks and Justin Kluivert.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was absent from the post-match press conference and was represented by his assistant, Willy Caballero.

“Enzo is unwell. He hasn't been feeling well for two days, but he still took part in training and accompanied the team today,” said Caballero, quoted by Sky Sports.

This isn't the first time Caballero has represented Chelsea in place of Maresca. Last week, he also accompanied the team when Chelsea lost 1-2 to Aston Villa because Maresca was serving a suspension due to accumulated yellow cards and had to watch the match from the stands.
