France have advanced to the 2026 World Cup quarter-finals as the most prolific scoring team across the entire tournament. Yet head coach Didier Deschamps is not fully satisfied. Ahead of their clash against Morocco, he has demanded Les Bleus become more efficient at converting every chance they create.
Despite having netted 14 goals so far in the tournament, Deschamps believes his squad's finishing can still be improved. He stressed that effectiveness in front of goal will be the deciding factor in high-stakes matches like the quarter-final round.
"Both sides have quality across every line. We have been reasonably effective, but we absolutely can do better. Sometimes you create six chances and only score twice, while on another day you get just two opportunities and convert both. That efficiency is what matters most," Deschamps stated, as quoted by The Strait Times on Thursday.

This remark underlines France's core priority heading into the critical fixture against Morocco. Deschamps wants his players to remain calm and clinical when operating inside the opposition penalty area.
France booked their quarter-final spot after beating Paraguay 1-0 in the round of 16. The only goal of the match came from Kylian Mbappé via a penalty kick.
The Les Bleus forward captain is currently in contention for the 2026 World Cup Golden Boot. Mbappé has registered seven goals so far, sitting just one goal behind Argentina captain Lionel Messi in the tournament's top scorer standings.
Alongside Mbappé, France possess a dangerous attacking unit. The presence of Ousmane Dembélé, Michael Olise and Bradley Barcola provides their offence with great tactical variety.
Even so, Deschamps has emphasised that Morocco must not be underestimated. He noted that the African representative has improved drastically following their surprise breakout run at the 2022 World Cup.
The 57-year-old coach warned his squad that Morocco are now a more experienced, mature side with proven quality.
"We faced them in the semi-finals four years ago. They have also reached the Africa Cup of Nations final, and they have many high calibre players. They did not come here just to take part - they came here to win. We have to be ready to deliver our very best performance against this excellent team," he said.
The upcoming France vs Morocco fixture is expected to be a tightly contested battle. On one hand, Les Bleus boast the best goalscoring output of any team remaining in the tournament. On the other, Morocco have once again demonstrated their credentials as one of the emerging powerhouses of world football.
