Sassuolo once again failed to capitalize on home advantage. Just a week after stealing valuable points at San Siro, the team featuring Indonesian National Team defender Jay Idzes stumbled at the Mapei Stadium following a loss to Torino. This result seemingly confirms Il Neroverdi's negative trend in front of their own fans.

The Mapei Stadium witnessed the Sassuolo vs Torino duel in Matchday 16 of the Serie A 2025-2026 on Sunday, December 21, 2025. Jay Idzes started and played the full 90 minutes, but his presence in the backline wasn't enough to prevent Sassuolo from a 0-1 defeat.

Torino's solitary goal was scored by Nikola Vlasic in the 66th minute from the penalty spot.

This result feels like a step backwards, especially considering Sassuolo's performance in Matchday 14.

Back then, Jay Idzes and his teammates held AC Milan at San Siro, even taking an early lead through Ismael Kone's goal when Milan were Serie A leaders. However, that magic didn't continue upon returning home.

Sassuolo coach, Fabio Grosso, admitted the match was tight with few clear chances.

“I think today was a game with few goal-scoring opportunities," said Grosso after the match against Torino, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.

The team's non-ideal condition also affected performance. Sassuolo played without several key pillars like Andra Pinamonti, Kristian Thorstvedt, and Domenico Berardi. Grosso felt his team played too cautiously early on. In the second half, Sassuolo created several chances and the game was more balanced.

"But in a balanced match, one moment can direct the course of the game, and then we didn't have the strength, also thanks to the opponent's lead, to turn the situation around," he stated.

The defeat to Torino further highlights Sassuolo's home problems. In their last five home games, Jay Idzes and co. have managed only one win. Conversely, their away form is more convincing with 11 points, coming from three wins and two draws.

For Sassuolo, especially Jay Idzes and his colleagues, the homework at home is increasingly clear. If they want to stay away from the relegation zone and maintain this season's positive momentum, breaking the bad trend at the Mapei Stadium becomes an agenda that can no longer be delayed.
