Santiago Bernabeu is preparing to witness a historic moment. When Real Madrid hosts Sevilla on Sunday, December 21, 2025, early morning WIB, the spotlight isn't just on the three points to close the year, but also on Kylian Mbappe. The French superstar is on the verge of surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo's goalscoring record, a benchmark that has remained almost untouched for over a decade.

Mbappe will lead Madrid's attack in Los Blancos' final match before the year ends. The stakes are clear. One last chance to write his name above the Portuguese legend.

Since last January, Mbappe has scored 58 goals for Real Madrid. A brace against Talavera in the Copa del Rey this week brought him even closer to Cristiano Ronaldo's historic tally, who still holds Madrid's calendar year top scorer record with 59 goals in 2013.

This means Mbappe needs two goals against Sevilla to surpass Ronaldo's achievement. The question is no longer whether he can, but whether Sevilla is the right opponent.

Statistics favor Mbappe. The 26-year-old striker has proven to be a nemesis for Sevilla since joining Madrid in the summer of 2024.

In two meetings against Los Rojiblancos, Mbappe has always scored, netting one goal per game with both ending in victories for El Real.

Momentum cannot be ignored either. Mbappe is in his best form of the 2025/2026 season.

The 2018 World Cup winner has amassed 28 goals and five assists from just 25 appearances for Real Madrid. These numbers reflect consistency and efficiency at the highest level.

In Madrid's last five matches across all competitions, Mbappe scored eight goals. He found the net in four of those games, only failing once when Madrid suffered a 0-2 humiliation by Celta Vigo over a week ago.

For Real Madrid, the match against Sevilla is the year's finale. For Mbappe, it's a test of mentality, statistics, and history.

Cristiano Ronaldo once made the Bernabeu his record-breaking stage. Now, the same stadium awaits to see if Mbappe is ready to take the baton or must wait for a new calendar to turn the next page.
