The name Cristiano Ronaldo has been synonymous with goal-scoring standards in Europe for over a decade. He set record after record with Manchester United and Real Madrid, which then became the benchmark for the next generation. Within less than 24 hours, two of Ronaldo's records were matched and broken by Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.
These two moments occurred in two different leagues, the Premier League and LaLiga, but the message is the same: a new era is in the process of taking over the stage.

The first event happened in the English Premier League when Manchester City faced West Ham United. Erling Haaland scored two goals, leading his team to a 3-0 win on Saturday, December 20, 2025, evening WIB.
Haaland's opening goal came in the 5th minute, capitalizing on a rebound in the penalty box. In the 69th minute, Haaland put his name on the scoresheet again with a close-range finish.
With these two additional goals, Haaland surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo's goal tally in the Premier League. Since his debut in 2022, the Norwegian national team striker has collected 104 goals. This total surpasses Ronaldo's achievement while playing for Manchester United, which was 103 goals.
Besides the number of goals, a difference is also seen in the number of matches. Haaland reached 104 goals in just 114 games.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo needed 236 matches to score 113 goals in the Premier League.
This comparison places Haaland as one of the fastest players to reach 100 goals in the English league.
Mbappe Matches Ronaldo's Real Madrid Record
On Sunday, December 21, 2025, early morning WIB, Kylian Mbappe also recorded an extraordinary achievement in LaLiga. The Real Madrid striker contributed one goal as his team won 2-0 against Sevilla.
With this additional goal, Mbappe matched Cristiano Ronaldo's record as Real Madrid's top scorer in a single calendar year.
Both Mbappe and Ronaldo recorded 59 goals in one calendar year with the Spanish capital club. Now, Ronaldo's record has a new companion.
Since joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2024, Mbappe has accumulated 73 goals from 83 appearances in all competitions.
This contribution places Mbappe alongside several key players in the club's history, including Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo still stands as the historical benchmark. However, Haaland and Mbappe are no longer just heirs. They are starting to set the new standards.
