The 2025 Jakarta International Marathon (JAKIM) not only succeeded as an international-scale sporting event but also proved to deliver significant economic impact for the capital city. The Jakarta Provincial Government recorded that the marathon running event contributed approximately Rp85 billion to various strategic sectors in Jakarta.

This economic impact was directly conveyed by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, who emphasized that JAKIM serves as a concrete example of how sports tourism can drive regional economic growth.

"The most concrete example is the Jakarta International Marathon. We calculated that at that time it contributed around Rp85 billion from MSMEs, hospitality, and so forth," said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung at Epicentrum Boulevard, South Jakarta, Sunday, December 14, 2025.

According to Pramono, JAKIM's economic contribution was felt not only by the hospitality sector but also extended to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), transportation, and other service sectors. The presence of tens of thousands of runners from various regions and countries created massive monetary circulation during the event.

Beyond international-scale events, Pramono also highlighted the increasingly popular local running events in Jakarta. Although smaller in scale, these events still deliver significant economic impact.

He estimated that income from local running events reaches about half of JAKIM 2025's contribution.

"This is evident in Jakarta through December, where tax revenues have been relatively fulfilled," he stated.

These remarks indicate that the running sports trend isn't merely a lifestyle but has become a new engine for urban economic growth. The consistent organization of both international and local running events helps maintain regional income stability, particularly from tax and tourism sectors.

Pramono Anung further confirmed JAKIM 2025's direct on-ground impact. Hotel occupancy rates increased significantly during the event, while MSME products were snapped up by participants and tourists.

Pramono Anung stated that hotels and merchandise from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sold well thanks to the 2025 Jakarta International Marathon (JAKIM).

High participant enthusiasm became one indicator of JAKIM's success. The 2025 edition attracted around 31,000 runners from domestic and international origins, signaling Jakarta's growing prominence in regional and international sports tourism calendars.

With 31,000 domestic and international participants at JAKIM 2025, this demonstrates the event's successful execution.

The large participant number not only boosted Jakarta's global exposure but also strengthened the capital's image as a sports-friendly city and running destination. Consequently, hotels in several areas experienced occupancy surges, while MSMEs along the race route directly benefited economically.

Thanks to the event, numerous hotels in the area were fully booked and MSMEs also gained benefits.

Moving forward, the Jakarta Provincial Government hopes JAKIM can develop into a sports tourism icon. The event is projected to attract not only professional runners but also recreational running communities and tourists seeking to experience running while exploring the city.

It's hoped that JAKIM can become a sports tourism destination in Jakarta to attract tourists, especially runners.

Aligned with this vision, the Jakarta Provincial Government has officially designated JAKIM as a premier sports tourism destination. This strategy aims to strengthen Jakarta's position as an active, healthy, and competitive global city in the sports tourism industry.

The Jakarta Provincial Government has established JAKIM as a sports tourism destination located in the region.
