The Padel fever in Jakarta has become increasingly palpable in recent months. New courts are sprouting up and becoming new magnets for enthusiasts of the racket sport. Yet behind this rising trend, resident complaints about noise have emerged, especially in densely populated residential areas.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo emphasized that his administration will regulate padel court operating hours, particularly those located within residential communities.

"We will standardize usage hours for padel venues in densely populated areas," stated Pramono at City Hall, Jakarta, on Monday, February 23, 2026.

According to him, this sport currently favored by many demographics must still uphold tolerance principles. Padel's popularity shouldn't sacrifice the comfort of surrounding residents.

He cautioned that these courts shouldn't disrupt residents' daily lives, creating unfairness for local communities.

"There was even a case where a one-and-a-half-year-old baby couldn't sleep because people were still shouting while playing padel late at night. I consider this unfair," Pramono remarked.

As concrete action, the Jakarta Provincial Government plans to hold a meeting on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 to discuss operational regulations for padel courts in the capital. Pramono also confirmed requesting thorough preparation of permitting processes and multi-stakeholder coordination.

Previously, he conveyed plans to invite all stakeholders for joint discussions on Jakarta's padel court regulations. These talks follow resident complaints about noise disturbances affecting daily activities.

Meanwhile, court managers responded positively. One owner at Haji Nawi Raya, Cilandak, South Jakarta, expressed willingness to limit operating hours and install soundproofing after receiving neighborhood complaints.

"We'll reinforce our walls so padel court noises remain contained indoors without disturbing external surroundings," said Fajar Ediputra, representative of PT Kreasi Arena Indonesia (Fourthwall Padel).

During Ramadan soundproofing installation, operations will be capped at 50% capacity with temporary hours from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM WIB.

"So during the fasting month, we're implementing both soundproofing and operational hour restrictions," Fajar explained.

Regarding permits, Fajar confirmed all processes complied with regulations. However, noise issues relate to zoning factors where courts directly border residential houses.

"Regulation-wise, our court decibel levels remain around 70. The core problem is zoning - our court zone directly neighbors residential zones," Fajar noted.

Management targets completing soundproofing within 35 days, hoping this solution balances maintaining Padel Sport's positive trend without sacrificing neighborhood comfort.

With clearer regulations, Jakarta's padel growth is expected to thrive healthily and professionally while preserving harmony between Sports facilities and surrounding communities.
