Liverpool concluded matchday 6 of the 2025/26 Champions League with a dramatic victory at Inter Milan's home ground. Meanwhile, the other English representative, Chelsea, returned from Italy with heads bowed.

Liverpool Win at Meazza Without Salah

Without their star Mohamed Salah, Liverpool secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Inter Milan on matchday 6 of the 2025/26 Champions League at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 early morning WIB. The decisive goal for The Reds was scored by Dominik Szoboszlai via a penalty conversion.

The additional three points lifted Liverpool to 8th position in the temporary standings with 12 points. Meanwhile, Inter Milan, suffering their second defeat, dropped to 5th place with equal points, ahead only on goal difference.

The match proceeded cautiously from the opening minutes. Inter received an early blow when Hakan Calhanoglu had to be substituted due to injury in the 11th minute, replaced by Piotr Zielinski.

Liverpool created their first chances through Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch, but both attempts were saved by Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

In the 32nd minute, Liverpool supporters briefly cheered when Ibrahima Konate's header found Inter's net, but VAR disallowed the goal due to a handball by Hugo Ekitike in the buildup.

Inter nearly scored just before halftime. However, Lautaro Martinez's header was pushed away by Alisson Becker. The 0-0 scoreline held until the break.

After halftime, Inter increased their attacking intensity. Lautaro had another golden opportunity in the 60th minute but was blocked by Liverpool's compact defense.

Hugo Ekitike's attempts twice threatened Yann Sommer but still couldn't change the scoreline.

Drama unfolded in the dying minutes when the referee awarded a penalty after Alessandro Bastoni was adjudged to have fouled Florian Wirtz in the box.

Dominik Szoboszlai stepped up as the penalty taker, successfully outwitting Sommer to secure a crucial victory for The Reds.

This victory proved vital considering the tight competition in the group's middle positions and Liverpool's need to maintain European momentum.

Chelsea Fall at Atalanta's Home

While Liverpool triumphed, Chelsea suffered defeat. The Blues fell 1-2 to Atalanta at Gewiss Stadium on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 early morning WIB. Atalanta came from behind to secure victory in an intense encounter.

Chelsea initially took the lead through Joao Pedro's 24th-minute strike. However, Atalanta overturned the result with Gianluca Scamacca's 55th-minute header and Charles De Ketelaere's 83rd-minute finish.

This result propelled Atalanta to third place in the standings with 13 points from six matches, while Chelsea dropped to 11th position with 10 points.

Atalanta had an early chance to open scoring in the 6th minute through Ademola Lookman's close-range shot, saved by Robert Sanchez. Chelsea responded with pressure in the 11th minute, but Enzo Fernandez's long-range effort sailed high.

Joao Pedro nearly scored in the 14th minute, but his header went wide. Atalanta countered through Marten de Roon in the 19th minute, though his attempt missed the target.

Chelsea finally broke through when Joao Pedro flicked home Reece James' cross in the 25th minute. The 1-0 scoreline held until halftime.

After the break, Atalanta dominated proceedings. Scamacca equalized with a powerful header from De Ketelaere's cross. The Italian striker nearly scored again in the 59th and 62nd minutes but was denied by Sanchez.

Chelsea threatened through Alejandro Garnacho in the 75th minute, but Marco Carnesecchi's save kept Atalanta in contention.

In the 83rd minute, De Ketelaere dribbled into the box after receiving De Roon's pass and fired into the bottom right corner. Sanchez got a touch but couldn't prevent the goal, sealing victory for La Dea.
