The second leg of the Champions League playoff round delivered a night full of drama. Four teams secured their tickets to the last 16, while Italian giants Inter Milan had to accept the bitter reality of elimination from Europe's elite competition.

The biggest shock came from Giuseppe Meazza. At home, Inter were humiliated by the Norwegian representatives, Bodo/Glimt, losing 1-2.

That defeat confirmed the Nerazzurri's exit with a 2-5 aggregate score, abruptly ending last season's finalists' journey.

Inter's failure contrasted sharply with the success stories of three other teams who displayed greater solidity and effectiveness in maximizing the second leg.

Atletico Madrid Show Their Mettle

At the Wanda Metropolitano, Atletico Madrid showcased their trademark European mentality. Los Colchoneros silenced Club Brugge with a resounding 4-1 victory.

Alexander Sorloth starred with a hat-trick. The result gave Diego Simeone's men a 7-4 aggregate advantage and progression to the next stage.

This win solidified Atletico's reputation as a tough team to break down in knockout matches, especially when playing in front of their own fans.

Newcastle United Maintain Momentum

Meanwhile at St James’ Park, Newcastle United confirmed their passage with a 3-2 win over Qarabag FK.

The Magpies played confidently following their big first-leg win, and this result sealed a 9-3 aggregate superiority.

Newcastle showed attacking consistency and mature play, making them a team to be reckoned with in the Round of 16.

Bayer Leverkusen Safe on Aggregate

At the BayArena, Bayer Leverkusen played out a goalless draw against Olympiacos. Despite only managing a 0-0 result in the second leg, Leverkusen progressed thanks to their 2-0 aggregate lead.

A pragmatic approach was enough for the Bundesliga representatives to secure their place in the knockout phase without taking excessive risks.

Four Teams, Four Stories

With these results, Atletico Madrid, Newcastle United, Bodo/Glimt, and Bayer Leverkusen officially advanced to the Champions League last 16.

The four remaining tickets will be contested in the next playoff matches on Thursday, February 26, 2026 WIB: Atalanta vs Borussia Dortmund, Juventus vs Galatasaray, PSG vs AS Monaco, and Real Madrid vs Benfica.

This playoff round proved that the Champions League always reserves space for surprises. This time, Inter Milan became the most striking victim of Europe's fierce competition.
