Lando Norris has finally completed his long journey to Formula 1's highest throne. The McLaren driver was officially crowned 2025 F1 world champion after finishing third at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday, December 7, 2025, in the evening WIB time.

This title also marks his first career championship, signaling a new era for McLaren and restoring the glory of the orange team after a 17-year wait.

Norris's journey to the world championship was not smooth. He admitted facing significant pressure and doubts early in the season.

Strategy errors, car inconsistency, and several poor results caused him to briefly lose confidence.

"I was lucky this year, but I also faced many difficult moments, especially early in the season. I encountered so many problems that made me lose a bit of belief initially," said Norris.

However, the turning point came when he conquered the Monaco GP. Victory on the world's toughest street circuit was a crucial moment, restoring his confidence and sparking a series of impressive performances throughout the second half of the season.

"It feels great to prove myself wrong, starting from the Monaco qualifying and some moments after that. In the second half of this season, I was truly able to show myself what I could do, what I am capable of," he stated.

Enjoying the Title Fight with Verstappen

Norris acknowledged that although this season was tough, he enjoyed every step of the process. The intense rivalry with Max Verstappen throughout the year fueled his motivation. The battle between these two drivers from different generations created high tension at nearly every race.

"It felt great to be able to fight Max, a four-time world champion," he said.

Consistency was key. With seven pole positions, seven wins, and a string of crucial podium finishes, Norris ultimately amassed 423 points, leading Verstappen – who chased him relentlessly until the final race – by just two points. That slim margin illustrates just how fierce this season's title fight was.

Historic Milestone for McLaren and Britain

This title crowns Norris as the first McLaren driver to become world champion since Lewis Hamilton in 2008. He also enters the history books as the 11th British driver to win the Formula 1 world championship, reinforcing the great tradition of champions from the Queen Elizabeth's realm.

For McLaren, this season validates their long-term development since their technical reforms began several years ago. Norris, with newfound stability and maturity, has been central to McLaren's return to the pinnacle of competition.

The 2025 season thus ends with a clear message from the champion: Norris is no longer just a future talent, but a central pillar in the world title fight for the years to come.
