Premier League: Arsenal stunned! Villa, Man City heat up title race

Aston Villa shook up the top of the table, making Matchweek 15 of the Premier League even more thrilling. At Villa Park on Saturday night, December 6, 2025, Unai Emery's team secured a dramatic 2-1 victory. This result ended Villa's winless streak against Arsenal in their last 11 meetings. The winning goal came late from Emiliano Buendía.

Villa started aggressively from the first minute, forcing David Raya into action. Their high pressure finally paid off when Matty Cash met Ian Maatsen's chipped cross with a powerful volley in the 36th minute.

Arsenal responded. The introductions of Leandro Trossard and Viktor Gyokeres made their attack more fluid. The equalizer came swiftly:

Trossard leveled the score at 1-1, slotting the ball home freely after receiving a pass from Saka.

However, the drama unfolded as the match seemed headed for a draw. In the fifth minute of injury time, Jadon Sancho's pressure caused a scramble in the box, which was perfectly exploited.

Raya initially denied Youri Tielemans' shot, but the ball spilled loose to Buendía, who was unmarked and unleashed a powerful shot that couldn't be stopped.

Villa won 2-1 and now has 30 points, climbing to third place in the standings.

Manchester City Closes Gap on Arsenal 

Manchester City secured second place after thrashing Sunderland 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens' three goals came from Rúben Dias (32’), Joško Gvardiol (35’), and Phil Foden (65’).

This result means Pep Guardiola's squad has collected 31 points, just two points behind league leaders Arsenal.

City dominated the match, controlling possession and creating chances. Jérémy Doku almost added another goal, but his shot hit the post. 

Sunderland, who threatened briefly through Granit Xhaka, lost Luke O’Nien to a red card, making their situation even tougher.

With this performance, City sent a clear message: the title race is far from over, and Arsenal cannot afford to slip up.

Chelsea Inconsistent Again, Draw at Vitality Stadium

While the top two contenders heated up the summit, less encouraging news came from London. Chelsea was held to a goalless draw by Bournemouth. This match highlighted the continued inconsistency of Enzo Maresca's team this season.

Bournemouth looked sharper in the first half, even scoring through Antoine Semenyo, but the goal was ruled out for offside. 

The Blues only came alive in the second half through chances from Garnacho, Enzo Fernández, and Cole Palmer, but none were converted.

Chelsea now has 25 points, remaining in fourth place but still vulnerable to being overtaken. Bournemouth climbed to 13th place with 20 points.
