Amidst the blue coastlines and green hills framing the landscape of South Sulawesi, a new idea is emerging. This concept elevates golf beyond a mere sport, transforming it into a tourism magnet that blends natural tranquility with regional achievement pride.

This momentum strengthened following the Provincial Sports Deliberation (Musprov) of PGI Sulsel in Makassar, which yielded fresh commitments from the government and sports stakeholders.

South Sulawesi Provincial Secretary Jufri Rahman emphasized golf's far broader potential beyond recreation.

"We hope PGI South Sulawesi will further introduce this sport to the younger generation," he stated in Makassar on Sunday, November 30, 2025.

Golf Teaches Life Philosophy

In Jufri Rahman's perspective, golf is intrinsically linked to life's fundamental values.

On green fairways, players learn emotional control, opportunity-spotting in stillness, and the importance of perseverance.

At the PGI Sulsel Musprov, he described golf as embodying life philosophy—teaching ethics, situational intelligence, confidence, and integrity.

Consequently, the local government expects this Musprov to generate new programs that not only enhance athlete performance but also position golf among youth as a character-building sport.

Transforming Golf Courses into Tourist Destinations

Beyond athlete development, Jufri Rahman stressed golf's potential as a South Sulawesi tourism draw.

With rising interest in sport tourism across Indonesia, Sulsel aims to merge its natural beauty with golf experiences.

He noted that developing international-standard facilities is crucial for revitalizing golf in Sulsel while boosting the region's image as an exclusive tourism destination.

From coastal areas to highlands, golf courses could become recreational spaces combining scenic landscapes with competitive activities.

Organizational Support to Build Golf Ecosystem

Organizationally, PGI Sulsel Chairman Yunan Yunus Kadir expressed hopes for productive Musprov outcomes to strengthen PGI's future continuity.

Such success is vital for developing young athletes and ensuring golf evolves as an inclusive mass sport.

Andi Rukman Nurdin Karumpa, Head of Organization at PGI's Executive Board, urged all Sulsel divisions to promptly improve organizational structures.(Antara)
