Speculation about the new coach for the Indonesian National Team has intensified again after English media, including Sky Sports, began seriously highlighting the possibility of Giovanni van Bronckhorst taking charge of the Garuda squad. This rumor is no longer just sideline chatter but a situation that is also shaking up the internal dynamics at Liverpool.
The latest news comes from Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, who reported in his coverage that Van Bronckhorst is being considered for the Head Coach position of the Indonesian National Team. He first shared this information via his X account, which immediately sparked widespread reactions from the public in both England and Indonesia.
According to the report, Liverpool is beginning to prepare contingency plans should they lose Van Bronckhorst. The club is reported to have interviewed one potential candidate. That figure is former Canadian National Team coach John Herdman, who is said to have spoken directly with the club's management.

Diaspora, Super League, and Indonesian National Team Coach
PSSI confirms Indonesian national team coach selection process completed, will soon be announced.
“Liverpool assistant coach, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, is under consideration for the Head Coach position in Indonesia,” wrote Dharmesh Sheth.
“Former Canada Head Coach John Herdman has been interviewed for the role. LFC,” he continued.
This Sky Sports report makes the Van Bronckhorst-to-Indonesia issue feel increasingly real, especially because Liverpool is currently in a difficult phase under Arne Slot. Inconsistent results and immense pressure from supporters have cast significant doubt over the future of the former Feyenoord coach.
Domino Effect at Liverpool: Dirk Kuyt Also Enters the Frame
Another source from England, Rousing The Kop, adds a new layer to this rumor. The media outlet, close to Liverpool matters, reported that Dirk Kuyt, a Reds legend and current coach of FC Dordrecht, is a candidate for Liverpool's new assistant coach position.
The situation makes sense. Kuyt is struggling to improve Dordrecht's performance in the Eerste Divisie, and the chance to return to Liverpool, even as an assistant, could be a moment to revitalize his coaching career.
However, Liverpool's move to seek a new assistant isn't solely about preparing for Van Bronckhorst's potential departure but also driven by internal needs. Amidst the poor results experienced by the team, changes within the coaching structure could be one quick solution management is considering.
Grasping Hope or Waiting for the Dominoes to Fall?
The rumor of Van Bronckhorst's departure also places Liverpool in a difficult position. If Arne Slot is indeed sacked, his entire staff, including Van Bronckhorst, would certainly leave the club. This means the process of finding a new assistant could become futile if management decides to overhaul the entire coaching team.
For the Indonesian National Team, this rumor brings new hope. Van Bronckhorst is not only a European-caliber figure but also someone with a strong track record at the highest level—both as a player and a coach. However, to date, there has been no official confirmation from PSSI or from Van Bronckhorst's camp himself.
What is clear is that this rumor has captured international public attention and sends a strong signal that Indonesia is increasingly being noticed on the global football radar.
