The selection process for the New Coach of the Indonesian National Team is confirmed to have reached its final stage. PSSI (Football Association of Indonesia) Deputy Chairman I, Zainudin Amali, revealed that all selection stages are complete, and the federation is now only waiting for the right time to announce it to the public.
"So, we have all finished the process," said Amali after watching the BRI Super League 2025/2026 match between Persija Jakarta and Bhayangkara Presisi Lampung FC at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, Monday, December 29, 2025.
Amali emphasized that in the Search for a New Coach for the Garuda squad, PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir did not intervene. According to him, Erick fully entrusted the PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) and the National Team Board (BTN) to carry out the selection process professionally.

He explained that this mechanism was intentionally designed so that the coach selection process would run objectively, transparently, and based on mature technical considerations.
"This is good, right, done through Exco meetings and the Chairman did not interfere. So, the Chairman let us discuss with BTN, then with those assigned by Mr. Muhammad and Mr. Endri," said Amali.
"Then, when it came time for decision-making, the Chairman led the meeting. So, it was given free rein. So, the Exco had the freedom to provide views on the coach. I think this is a very good thing," he added.
Previously, a PSSI Exco member, Endri Erawan, revealed that the coach selection process was conducted directly in Europe. He, along with several other Exco members including Muhammad, PSSI Technical Director Alexander Zwiers, and Technical Advisor Jordi Cruyff, interviewed several Candidates for the Indonesian National Team Coach.
This step underscores PSSI's seriousness in finding a coach who is not only experienced but also aligns with the long-term vision for national team development.
Although the entire process is complete, Amali is still reluctant to reveal when the figure who will Replace Patrick Kluivert will be officially announced. He stated that the finalization and announcement are now in the hands of the PSSI Secretary General.
"We have handed it over to Mr. Mardji to finalize, and later the announcement will be made by the Chairman," he stated.
Amid public anticipation, several rumors regarding the identity of the new Indonesian National Team Coach have begun to surface. Canadian media, canadiansoccerdaily.com, reported that John Herdman has been appointed as the New Coach of the Indonesian National Team. Herdman is known as the coach who successfully led the Canadian national team to the 2022 World Cup.
The media also mentioned that Herdman is reportedly set to receive a salary offer of 40,000 US dollars per month, or approximately Rp670 million, from PSSI.
Meanwhile, another Canadian media outlet, Waking The Red, reported that the agreement between PSSI and Herdman includes a two-year contract, with an option to extend until 2030.
However, regarding the various rumors circulating on social media and foreign media, Amali chose to keep the federation's internal information tightly sealed.
"Don't know, that's their business. The bottom line is that the official announcement from PSSI will be made by the Chairman, Mr. Erick Thohir. That's it," he asserted.
