In recent years, Indonesia has transformed into one of the most sought-after travel destinations for Saudi Arabian tourists. Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana revealed that Indonesia holds a special position in the hearts of Saudi Arabian citizens as their favorite tourist destination.

The cool climate and tropical tranquility combined with the hospitality of the Nusantara culture serve as magnets attracting Saudi tourists to Indonesia.

Widiyanti explained that Saudi tourists are already familiar with various premier Indonesian destinations.

"Generally, Saudi tourists are acquainted with Indonesian tourist destinations like Bandung, Bali, Lombok, and Jakarta," she stated when contacted by Antara

This closeness is not without reason. Many Saudi tourists seek environments with cool air, lush greenery, natural serenity, and five-star accommodation facilities guaranteeing comfort.

"Saudi tourists typically prefer cool-weather destinations with abundant trees, peaceful surroundings, and five-star accommodation facilities," Widiyanti elaborated.

Statistical data reinforces this positive trend. According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of Saudi tourists visiting Indonesia reached 135,643 in 2024, a 25.96% increase from the previous year.

Meanwhile, from January to September 2025, arrivals reached 113,685 tourists, with projections indicating continued growth through year-end.

This surge didn't happen spontaneously. The Tourism Ministry deployed intensive promotion strategies at key locations, collaborating closely with stakeholders and tourism industry players.

Indonesia's participation in international exhibitions like Arabian Travel Market, Jeddah International Travel and Tourism Exhibition, and Riyadh Travel Fair served as platforms to introduce domestic destinations and services to Saudi audiences.

These efforts were further strengthened through direct promotional missions in major Saudi cities like Jeddah and Riyadh.

In 2025, the Tourism Ministry expanded its cooperation network by organizing business meetings with the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh and Consulate General in Jeddah.

The objective was connecting Indonesian tourism players with potential strategic partners in Saudi Arabia.

During these meetings, five Indonesian tourism companies were facilitated to meet with 42 Saudi company representatives, spanning travel agencies, airlines, attraction operators, real estate firms, hotel chains, and banks.

Another layer of Indonesia's promotion strategy is the Mega Famtrip program, an introductory trip inviting Saudi tourism entrepreneurs to directly experience Indonesian tourism services.

In October 2025, they explored Jakarta, West Java, West Nusa Tenggara, and Bali, witnessing firsthand why Indonesia is favored by Middle Eastern visitors.

The Tourism Minister reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to continuously expand its promotional reach.

"The Tourism Ministry will keep collaborating with the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh, Consulate General in Jeddah, and tourism stakeholders from both Indonesia and Saudi Arabia to intensify promotions," said Widiyanti.

Promotion of Indonesian tourism services to Saudi tourists will continue through international exhibitions, business meetings, and various familiarization trips.

Amid global competition, Indonesia offers not just destinations but spaces to breathe, experience cool tranquility, and enjoy genuine hospitality.
