Indonesian young pair Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin have officially announced themselves as a new force in the world's men's doubles sector. Their championship title at the BWF World Tour Super 500 Australian Open 2025 isn't just a major victory, but also a signal that they're ready to step up against the world's top names.
At Quaycentre, Olympic Boulevard on Sunday, 23 November 2025, Raymond/Joaquin displayed full confidence against their seniors and the tournament's fifth seeds, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Shohibul Fikri. In an intense three-game battle, they secured a 22-20, 10-21, 21-18 victory - a symbolic result as they dethroned the 2023 world champions and one of the most consistently performing men's doubles pairs at the top level.
With nearly flawless performances throughout the week, they seemed to affirm that Indonesia still possesses premium regeneration stock in men's doubles, a sector that has been the backbone of the Red-and-White's achievements for over a decade.

A Title That Becomes a Springboard
This victory also marks the first Super 500 title for the young duo. A beginning reminiscent of their seniors' journeys, like Marcus/Kevin who exploded onto the scene young, or Hendra/Ahsan who remain role models thanks to world-class technique and mentality.
"Praise God, this proves we can compete at the top level," said Raymond in the official PP PBSI statement.
Raymond didn't stop there. He firmly stated this title isn't the journey's end but a stepping stone.
"Many targets remain ahead. Hopefully we can consistently deliver our best performances like here. We don't want this title to become a burden."
This statement reflects the increasingly mature mindset of Indonesia's young athletes. Not rushing into euphoria, not wanting quick satisfaction - a crucial character foundation for lasting at the highest level.
Long Process Behind the Chemistry
As a pair, Raymond/Joaquin weren't formed overnight. They're products of the national training system forged together since junior days. This shows in how they execute strategies, shift rhythms, and cover each other under pressure.
"We already know each other's special ingredients from long training together. We stayed completely focused on strategy. Couldn't slacken even slightly because a Fajar and a Fikri have hundreds of matches' experience," said Joaquin.
Fajar/Fikri are indeed dangerous opponents. BWF records show they've appeared in over 20 World Tour finals with extensive experience at Super 750 to Super 1000 levels. Defeating them in a final validates Raymond/Joaquin won not just through momentum but quality.
"This is a major achievement and hopefully inspires others to keep chasing higher. Moreover, this title is for PBSI and Indonesia," added Joaquin.
Their dedication to the Pelatnas men's doubles sector shows this victory is considered communal property, not merely personal achievement.
Great Potential, Journey Still Long
With this title, Raymond/Joaquin's world ranking position is predicted to soar. In recent years, young Indonesian pairs like Leo/Daniel or Pramudya/Yeremia also briefly stole the international spotlight. But regeneration mustn't stop, and Raymond/Joaquin's presence is a breath of fresh air.
They must still break through consistency barriers against other top pairs like Liang/Wang (China), Kang/Seo (Korea), and Lane/Vendy (England). Yet their fast, aggressive playing style and fighter mentality lead many observers to note their distinctive traits could develop into real threats.
The Australian Open 2025 wasn't just a tournament. It was a declaration stage that Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin are no longer mere young talents, but prospective elite players beginning their ascent on the world's grand staircase.
And as they said, the journey remains long but their first step is highly promising.
