Persib Bandung received a boost ahead of a crucial phase of the competition. Their key central defender, Federico Barba, has finally returned to training sessions after a lengthy absence due to health issues. Barba's return is not only good news for Maung Bandung but also a significant confidence boost ahead of important matches in the AFC Champions League II (ACL II) 2025.
According to the club's official report, Persib's team doctor, Wira Prasetya, confirmed that the Italian player's condition continues to show positive progress after undergoing recovery in his home country.
"He is currently in the recovery program, hopefully he will be able to return to the field soon," said Wira.

However, Persib cannot yet confirm whether Barba will be ready to return to play in the near future. Wira emphasized that the medical team is still monitoring the defender's condition periodically, especially to assess his physical readiness and his body's response to training intensity.
The Impact of Barba's Absence on Persib's Defense
The 32-year-old player last featured in week 11 of the BRI Super League 2025/2026 during a 2-0 win over Persis Solo. After that, Barba had to step aside as Persib recorded three important victories against Bali United and Dewa United in the domestic league, and faced Selangor FC in the ACL II.
Barba's absence was noticeable. Although Persib still achieved positive results, his contribution as the leader of the backline was irreplaceable. Before the injury, Barba had appeared in nine matches, recording one goal and one assist in 745 minutes of play – figures that highlight the immense role of the former Benevento and Real Valladolid player in the team's defensive structure.
Southeast Asian football observers believe Barba's presence has given Persib a new dimension, especially in build-up play. Persib is one of the teams with the most consistent ball progression this season, and one of the factors is Barba's ability to create from the back.
Persib Faces Crucial ACL II Match
Persib is now preparing for their fifth Group G ACL II match against Lion City Sailors at Bishan Stadium, Singapore, on Wednesday, 26 November 2025, at 19.15 WIB. With the group competition becoming increasingly tight, Barba's availability is naturally a major question.
When asked about the possibility of Barba traveling to Singapore, Wira could not provide certainty.
"Regarding whether he will go to Singapore or not, we are still monitoring his condition, still waiting for the (health) evaluation results before departure," he explained.
Persib themselves are currently in good form in the ACL II, and the match against the Sailors is one of the key determinants of their position in the standings. Considering the aggressive playing style of the Singaporean team and their effectiveness in quick transitions, the presence of an experienced defender like Barba would be highly significant.
The Return of a Leader, Not Just a Player
Since arriving in Bandung at the start of the season, Barba immediately became a crucial figure for Maung Bandung. Not only because of his defensive quality, but also the maturity, composure, and leadership he brought to the squad. It's no wonder Persib supporters eagerly await the moment their defensive general returns to the pitch.
Now, Barba's recovery is one of the club's main focuses. With a packed schedule and increasingly tight competition, his presence in the backline could be the difference-maker, both in the league and at the Asian level.
