Not even a full day after defeating Bali United, Persib Bandung immediately accelerated their preparations. The team nicknamed Maung Bandung doesn't want to lose momentum ahead of their crucial match against Selangor FC in the AFC Champions League Two 2025/2026.

However, behind the players' high spirits, unpleasant news emerged about their key player Beckham Putra Nugraha who had to miss training due to illness.

Precious Victory in Gianyar, Immediate Focus on Selangor

Persib just secured three vital points after narrowly defeating Bali United 1-0 at Captain I Wayan Dipta Stadium, Gianyar, Bali on Saturday, 1 November 2025.

The sole goal created through Andrew Jung's action originated from Beckham Putra's intelligent movement after he entered as a substitute in the 65th minute.

This victory not only extended Persib's positive streak in the 2025/2026 Super League but also boosted team confidence before flying to Malaysia.

Without much rest, Bojan Hodak's squad immediately resumed training the next day, Sunday, 2 November 2025. Training was split into two sessions: 10 players who played under 60 minutes underwent technical-tactical drills at Gelora Samudra Stadium, Kuta, while longer-playing squad members had recovery sessions at the hotel with physiotherapists.

“Febri Hariyadi and teammates started post-match training at 08:30 WITA lasting approximately 60 minutes. At this time, Beckham Putra Nugraha was absent due to illness,” stated Persib's official announcement on the club website.

Beckham Absent, Hodak Faces New Challenge

Beckham's absence is a major concern. The 24-year-old has been in fine form with renowned space-creating abilities in midfield. Unfortunately, his physical condition hasn't recovered post-Bali United match.

Though Persib hasn't detailed Beckham's illness, this development forces coach Bojan Hodak to adjust strategies before the critical Malaysia clash.

Persib faces Selangor FC on Thursday, 6 November 2025 at Petaling Jaya Stadium in their AFC Champions League Two (ACL 2) Group G second leg. Victory is absolutely essential for Maung Bandung to maintain progression hopes.

Despite Beckham's absence, Hodak still has midfield alternatives like Marc Klok, Dedi Kusnandar, or even versatile Frans Putros. However, losing such an energetic player is significant.

“Meanwhile, players who featured from kickoff underwent recovery with PERSIB physiotherapist Benidektus Adi Prianto, starting at 10:00 WITA,” continued the club statement.

Focus, Adaptation, and Energy for Asian Contest

Persib appears accustomed to congested schedules. Recent weeks saw player rotation become key to maintaining squad fitness and competitiveness. Under Hodak's direction, Maung Bandung shows greater discipline in conditioning while focusing on continental preparations.

The Selangor FC duel is predicted to be intense. Beyond regional rivalry, both teams need victory to sustain group stage hopes. Despite temporarily losing Beckham, Persib players affirm their determination to perform maximally.

For bobotoh (fans), Beckham's illness causes some concern. However, confidence remains that Maung Bandung possesses sufficient squad depth to compete simultaneously in both Super League and AFC Champions League Two.

“Victory isn't just about strategy, but also character,” stated Bojan Hodak.

Persib is proving this character grows stronger even when facing minor storms like Beckham's absence.
