Indonesia's young men's doubles pair, Muhammad Putra Erwiansyah and Daniel Edgar Marvino, officially secured the championship title at the Indonesia International Challenge 2025. They defeated South Korean pair Song Hyun Cho / Jin Sung Ik after their opponents decided to retire (retired) in the deciding game when the score showed strong pressure from the Indonesian side.

The final match score was 20-22, 21-19 before the Korean pair's withdrawal in the second game became decisive at GOR Amongrogo, Yogyakarta, last Sunday.

This victory isn't merely a title in the BWF Continental Circuit-level International Challenge tournament—it's proof of young talent ready to level up. The tournament at GOR Amongrogo featured 258 athletes from 12 countries, including 114 Indonesian representatives.

Final Pressure Amid Mental Struggle

After the match, Putra admitted they faced a critical moment:

“After leading, we became tense and avoided rallies, making many unforced errors and hesitating. This title boosts our confidence moving forward,” he said.

This statement reflects that for young doubles players, championships aren't just about technique and power, but also about managing mentality when momentum shifts.

Meanwhile, Daniel Edgar Marvino acknowledged their final performance wasn't entirely perfect:

“But we stayed focused on scoring through attacking patterns and pressuring opponents. After leading by several points, we actually eased up, allowing pressure to reverse,” he stated.

This comment demonstrates maturity—showing that at competitive levels like International Challenge, attacking strategy alone isn't enough; they must know when to hold back, when to press, and how to handle resurging opponent pressure.

Maiden Title as a Duo, and the Dawn of an Era

For Daniel, this moment is particularly special as it marks their first title as a pair.

“We're grateful to win the championship here, our first title as partners,” he expressed.

This success signals positive momentum for their doubles career. Putra, a talented young player from PB Djarum born in 2004, previously achieved junior accolades before competing at senior level. In the latest BWF rankings (as of November 11, 2025), both hold world No. 63 in men's doubles.

Victory's Significance in the Broader Scheme

Winning the Indonesia International Challenge carries strategic weight. As a Level 4 BWF Continental Circuit event featuring promising talents from various countries, this US$20,000 tournament serves as a proving ground before stepping up to higher-tier competitions.

The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) set ambitious targets from the outset. Head coach Mulyo Handoyo stated the host nation aimed for at least three titles from the International Challenge series in Yogyakarta.

Putra/Daniel's victory strengthens this ambition and demonstrates Indonesia's men's doubles regeneration is progressing well.

What's Next for Putra/Daniel?

This win could herald a new era for the young pair. With an International Challenge title secured, they've proven their capacity to handle pressure and crucial matches.

Putra Erwiansyah and Daniel Edgar Marvino's victory at the Indonesia International Challenge 2025 isn't just a title. It's evidence of their commitment, skill, and mental readiness to compete internationally. For young fans following Indonesian rising athletes' careers, their names deserve spotlight.

They aren't just today's champions but the great hope for future men's doubles.
