The Deli Serdang sky felt hot that afternoon, not just from the sun, but also from the blazing match tension at GOR PBSI Pancing. Indonesia's young mixed doubles pair, Marwan Faza/Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata, secured a spot in the final of the Indonesia Masters II 2025 after defeating China's representatives, Liao Pin Yi/Tang Rui Zhi, in a three-game duel ending 21-19, 17-21, 21-18.
As the top seeds, Marwan/Aisyah stumbled in the second game but managed a comeback with solid composure and self-control in the deciding game. For Marwan, this win wasn't just a ticket to the final, but proof that mentality and adaptation are key at the international level.
“Alhamdulillah, I can return to the final again without injury. Earlier, in game one we played well, but in game two I hadn't found my rhythm yet. From playing with the favorable wind to playing against it, I was still using the same game pattern,” said Marwan after the match.

“So the adaptation was slow. We should have changed the game pattern; we couldn't keep trading hard shots, there had to be a limit. In game three, I tried to be calmer and control myself better,” he added.
Fast Duel vs Calm Tactics
The characteristically fast style of the Chinese pair forced Marwan/Aisyah to change their game rhythm. According to Marwan, the keys to victory were reaction speed and emotional control.
“The male player plays fast, his half-shot placements are good, and he brings the shuttle down quickly, so we couldn't afford to be slower than them. As for the female player, her forward movement is fast – that's typical of all Chinese mixed doubles female players,” stated Marwan.
Meanwhile, Aisyah, known for her quick reflexes at the net, admitted struggling to maintain the rhythm early in the third game.
“The shuttle also slowed down a bit, so we were trailing 2-6 at one point. After that, I tried to be calmer and focus on returning the shuttle. For tomorrow's final, I need to be confident and believe in my own ability,” revealed Aisyah.
Focus on the Final: Golden Momentum for Indonesia's Young Doubles
This win reinforces the positive trend for Indonesian mixed doubles in international tournaments. Since the era of Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir, this sector has had its ups and downs, but regeneration is now becoming evident through young duos like Marwan/Aisyah.
According to the BWF Tournament Software, the pair is ranked 35th in the world as of October 2025 and is on the rise after consistent performances in several Asian tournaments. On another front, Indonesia is building strength in the mixed doubles sector as part of the PBSI's primary focus: the roadmap towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
National training coach, Nova Widianto, has previously highlighted the importance of adaptation in matches where indoor court conditions vary at each venue.
“In major tournaments, it's not just skill that's tested, but also how quickly players can read the wind direction, shuttlecock bounce, and the opponent's tempo,” he said in an interview with PBSI.tv.
Looking Ahead to the Final
Ahead of the final match, Marwan/Aisyah are determined to play more freely without pressure. They want to show that Indonesia's young badminton generation doesn't just have potential, but also a champion's mentality.
If they can take home the title, it will be their fourth international title of 2025, adding valuable points towards qualification for the BWF World Tour Finals.
