Jay Idzes' name is back in the spotlight after putting on a brilliant display in Sassuolo's resounding 3-0 victory over Atalanta in the 2025/2026 Italian League continuation on Sunday, November 9, 2025. The Indonesian national team captain showed a solid performance that made Sassuolo's defensive line impenetrable throughout the match at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.

This big win not only adds three points but also reinforces Sassuolo's position as a promoted team capable of competing in the middle of the Serie A table.

They now occupy eighth place in the provisional standings with 16 points from 11 matches.

Coach Fabio Grosso couldn't hide his pride in the hard work of the players, including Idzes, who played a key role in maintaining defensive stability.

“With consistency, we can make great progress, and we are working towards that. Regardless of the final result, we fought, played, and gave maximum performance,” said Grosso as quoted from Sassuolo's official website.

As a promoted team, Sassuolo played disciplinedly, relying on defensive play and quick counter-attacks. Despite having only 42 percent ball possession, they were clinical, scoring three goals from four shots on target.

Idzes, positioned as a central defender, became a central figure in maintaining the balance between defense and attack transition.

His bravery in aerial duels and accuracy in reading the direction of attacks frustrated Atalanta throughout the match.

“We have very good players, including three forwards up front. All players must be willing to sacrifice, drop back to help defend, and help each other. I congratulate all the players on this victory,” said the 47-year-old coach Grosso.

Sassuolo scored goals through Domenico Berardi (29’, 66’) and Andrea Pinamonti (47’). On the other hand, Atalanta, who recorded 14 shots with only two on target, failed to penetrate the tight backline marshalled by Idzes and his teammates.

This victory showcases Idzes' way of adapting to Serie A, while also confirming he is not merely a squad filler, but one of the main defensive pillars for Sassuolo this season.
