The 12th week match of the BRI Super League 2025/2026 between Persik Kediri and Persebaya Surabaya at Gelora Joko Samudro Stadium, Gresik, ended in a 1-1 draw on Friday night.

Persik fell behind first after Persebaya's Arief Catur Pamungkas scored in the 54th minute. Jose Enrique Rodriguez equalized in the 63rd minute.

The result left disappointment for both sides, regarding both VAR decisions and the final outcome.

Persebaya coach Eduardo Perez felt VAR decisions had again disadvantaged his team.

"I think this season VAR hasn't been fair to us," said Eduardo after the match.

The Spanish coach explained that slow-motion replays often make ordinary contact appear like serious fouls.

"Football always involves contact, but when viewed in slow motion, it looks like a major foul," he stated.

Eduardo clarified he wasn't blaming the referee, but highlighting the technology's excessive sensitivity.

"I don't want to discuss today's referee, but VAR is too sensitive to minor contact," he said.

Despite disappointment, Eduardo praised his players' fighting spirit and shifted focus to the next match against Arema FC.

"We'll work hard and prepare the team to get three points in the next game," he affirmed.

Regarding supporters' calls for his resignation, Eduardo remained professional.

"I respect all opinions. Now I'm stronger than ever," he emphasized.

Persik Kediri Coach Ong Kim Swee Disappointed With Draw

Persik Kediri coach Ong Kim Swee expressed disappointment at failing to capitalize on their numerical advantage.

"Our target was three points, but we only got one. That's a disappointing result for me," he lamented.

However, Ong praised his players for rallying after trailing.

"The players bounced back after being 0-1 down, showing positive character," said the Malaysian coach.

He noted his team rushed their finishing too much.

"Despite having extra players, we couldn't maximize opportunities. That needs improvement," he admitted.

Ong hopes to win the remaining two matches to improve Persik's league position.

"Though this result isn't ideal, the point matters. Winning our next two games could change our standings," he concluded.

With this draw, Persik remains 11th in the standings with 13 points, while Persebaya stays 9th with 15 points. (Antara)
