Persebaya Surabaya has finally written new history in Padang. After failing to claim an away victory at H. Agus Salim Stadium for over a full decade, the Green Force delivered a rampant performance with a seven-goal rout against Semen Padang during Matchweek 33 of the 2025-2026 Super League.

This resounding win is not only a key milestone for Persebaya this season, it has also reopened the club's path to qualify for Asian continental competitions. The three collected points lifted Bajul Ijo up to 4th position in the provisional league Standings with a total of 55 points.

Despite his side's dominant display, head coach Bernardo Tavares moved to dampen the euphoria. The Portuguese manager immediately redirected the squad's full focus towards their upcoming fixture against Persik Kediri.

"Right now our full focus is on player recovery and monitoring fitness levels. Several squad members are still not operating at 100% condition. We must stay grounded and not allow this result to make us complacent," Tavares stated, as quoted from Persebaya's official club website.

Persebaya executed an efficient game plan across the full 90 minutes. Match statistics show the Green Force established control despite recording 49% overall ball possession.

From 19 total attempted shots, 10 found the target. Persebaya also created 12 clear scoring opportunities and completed 47 successful passes into the opposition final third.

Francisco Rivera opened the goalscoring for Persebaya, before Arief Catur Pamungkas doubled their lead. This early momentum boosted the away side's confidence to continue pressing for more goals.

After the half time interval, Semen Padang found themselves completely unable to escape Persebaya's sustained pressure. Bruno Moreira and Mihailo Perovic both added their names to the scoresheet, before Bruno Paraiba emerged as the match standout with an impressive second half hat-trick.

Even with the one-sided final scoreline, Tavares stressed the match was far more closely contested than the result made it appear.

"The score looks very heavy on paper, but this game was never that straightforward," he noted.

Tavares also offered critical feedback on his side's performance, singling out poor transition play when losing possession late in the first half. He warned that such small errors could cause major problems if repeated against Persik Kediri.

"Our reaction after losing the ball during the final 10 to 15 minutes of the first half was not good enough. If this same issue occurs against Persik, we will face big problems," he emphasised.

The coach, who previously won the national league title with PSM Makassar, praised Bruno Paraiba's clinical finishing, noting that the striker's goals effectively broke Semen Padang's remaining resistance.

"That finished the game as a contest. It is positive that we scored so many goals today, but we still must remain humble," Tavares added.

This victory in Padang carries extra meaning for Persebaya, as it finally ended the club's long Running winless away curse at Semen Padang's home ground.

Even amid the winning celebrations, Tavares made a point of showing full respect for his opponents, who have now been officially confirmed for relegation to the second division next season.

"I hold enormous respect for Semen Padang. Indonesia needs clubs like this in the top flight, especially now with their new stadium and fantastic match atmosphere," he concluded.
