Indonesia U-17 National Team coach Nova Arianto couldn't hide his disappointment after his team lost 1-3 to Zambia in their Group H opener at the 2025 U-17 World Cup at Aspire Academy, Doha, Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Despite taking an early lead through Muhammad Zahaby Gholy's goal, the Young Garuda surrendered after Zambia replied with three goals from Abel Nyironggo and Lukonde Mwale before halftime.
"At the World Cup level, if we don't dare to play or are afraid, the situation will become difficult for us. Because we could see the difference in our play between the first and second halves," said Nova in the mixed zone after the match.
Nova assessed his players appeared awkward in the first half and were too cautious facing Zambia's pressure. However, in the second half, the Young Garuda's determination and courage began to show.

"And I saw in the second half my players could have better determination. Eventually we created many chances in the second half," he continued.
The 44-year-old coach expressed disappointment with the final result but still appreciated his players' fighting spirit.
Nova made several changes after halftime, introducing Adi Dimas and Muhammad Algazani from the start of the second half to boost attacking power.
"In the locker room I told them: if you players are afraid on the field, afraid to clash, afraid to control the ball, then we'll always be under pressure," Nova emphasized.
Tactically, Nova claimed to have anticipated the speed of Zambia's wingers. However, lapses in defense led to Indonesia conceding three goals.
"There were indeed minor lapses but I think it's normal at this World Cup level. And if we make a mistake at any moment, it becomes a goal (for the opponent)," he said.
With this result, Indonesia sits third in Group H with zero points and a minus two goal difference. Nova hopes his squad can learn from their mistakes when facing Brazil in their next match on Friday, November 7, 2025.
The Young Garuda are demanded to rise again, not only with sharper strategy but also the courage to fight without fear. (Antara)
