Indonesian tennis players Janice Tjen and Aldila Sutjiadi have once again made history in women's tennis. They clinched the doubles title at the WTA 250 Chennai Open 2025 in India, a feat that further solidifies Indonesia's position on the international tennis map.

In a fiercely contested final, the second-seeded Janice/Aldila successfully defeated the top seeds Monica Niculescu (Romania) and Storm Hunter (Australia) with a score of 7-5, 6-4. According to official WTA data, this victory not only proved their technical skill and teamwork but also their increasingly mature championship mentality.

Sharp Strategy and Lethal Serves

Statistics spoke volumes about their dominance. Janice and Aldila converted four out of six break points, approximately 66.7 percent, proving more effective than their opponents who could only capitalize on two out of four opportunities.

Their primary weapon remained their solid first serve, with accuracy reaching 77.5 percent of first-serve points, accompanied by one ace in the match that lasted one hour and 21 minutes.

"Strong serves are still our mainstay. We trust each other on every crucial point," stated Aldila after the match.

The Journey to the Chennai Throne

Before reaching the final, the Janice/Aldila duo had to face an "internal clash" with fellow Indonesian players. In the first round, they eliminated Priska Nugroho partnering with Sofya Lansere after a three-set battle.

Their path grew steadier in the semifinal after a straight-sets win over a home pair, before finally overcoming stiff resistance from another Indian pair in the semifinal via a third-set decider.

The victory in Chennai is not just about the trophy, but also a symbol of the increasingly solid chemistry between Janice and Aldila.

"From the start, we knew the challenge was tough, but we committed to playing aggressively and staying focused on our strategy," said Janice.

Golden Momentum for Indonesian Women's Tennis

The Chennai title marks their first WTA 250 title as a pair, simultaneously confirming Janice Tjen's dominance over the past two weeks. Previously, Janice also recorded a brilliant victory at the WTA 250 Guangzhou Open with a different partner, and even won the WTA 250 Chennai singles title, capping off her success after securing the WTA 125 Jinan Open in China.

Meanwhile, the title they won in Suzhou earlier in October, although not part of the official WTA count (as the 125 level is equivalent to a Challenger tournament), remains an important stepping stone for the duo's consistency this season.

This achievement sends a positive signal for the development of Indonesian tennis. After the era of legends like Yayuk Basuki, the public now has a new reason to believe that successors like Janice and Aldila are ready to raise the Red-and-White flag even higher on the global stage.

"From Chennai, we want to keep moving forward in other major WTA tournaments," stated Aldila, affirming their determination.

More Than Just a Title

Janice/Aldila's victory in Chennai is not merely an achievement record, but also a collective resurgence of Indonesian tennis at the world level. With the hard work, discipline, and solidarity they demonstrated, this story is not just about two young players winning on the court, but also about the long journey towards true professionalism.

Looking ahead, many observers believe that Janice and Aldila have the potential to break into the world's Top 50 in doubles – an achievement that will pave the way for young Indonesian generations to dare to dream again in the professional tennis world.
