Borobudur never runs out of ways to make anyone yearn to return. After the charm of sunrise and the magic of temple reliefs, now it's time for "PENTAS Borobudur: Ngangeni" to call upon art and culture lovers to come to Magelang on October 31, 2025.

Held at the Borobudur Museum Amphitheater and Art Village, this event will run from afternoon to evening, starting from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM WIB, featuring a beautiful collaboration between music, traditional arts, and local cultural expressions.

A Soul-Warming Cultural Journey

"This program also serves as appreciation and facilitation for local arts and culture practitioners who have been an essential part of the sustainable tourism ecosystem," said Ministry of Tourism's Deputy for Event Development Vinsensius Jemadu in Jakarta on Tuesday.

More than just entertainment, "PENTAS Borobudur: Ngangeni" celebrates the living culture around Borobudur Temple.

Vinsensius explained this activity is part of efforts to develop culture and tradition-based tourism attractions while strengthening the tourism ecosystem in Borobudur Priority Tourism Destination.

Cross-Generational Collaboration on the Ngangeni Stage

Beyond traditional arts, this event weaves harmony between old and new generations. On the "Ngangeni" stage, performers will include Aftershine, Ngatmombilung, and Sekar Rimba Nusantara—artists known for bringing music with modern ethnic nuances.

Adding vibrant atmosphere, local studios like Sanggar Erlangga Koperasi Medang Kamulan and Sanggar Museum Kampung Seni Borobudur will also perform.

Borobudur becomes a meeting space demonstrating how culture never stops evolving, and art always finds new ways to summon longing—ngangeni (evoking nostalgia), as its theme suggests.

Art Village: A New Living Destination

According to Vinsensius, choosing Borobudur Art Village as the venue reflects the Ministry's support for new tourist destinations around Borobudur Temple.

This place has become a new magnet for tourists wanting to witness firsthand the cultural pulse of Magelang's community.

Every carving, song, and dance in this village opens a small window into Borobudur's true soul—peaceful, warm, and deeply meaningful.

Free and Open to All

"Through PENTAS Borobudur, we want to provide a space for local artists and communities to express themselves while inviting tourists to experience the living cultural warmth surrounding Borobudur," Vinsensius added.

The event is open to the public and free. Anyone can immerse in Borobudur's unique cultural atmosphere, complete with gamelan accompaniment, stage lights, and tempting aromas of local cuisine.

Becoming a New Magnet for Sustainable Tourism

Beyond entertainment, PENTAS Borobudur is a strategic step to strengthen Borobudur's image as a premier destination based on culture and creative economy.

"Thus, this event can boost tourism appeal, encourage tourist movement, elevate local culture and wisdom, support MSMEs and creative economy players, while reinforcing Borobudur's image as a leading culture-based destination," Vinsensius stated.

Borobudur: Where Longing Always Returns

There's something ngangeni (nostalgia-inducing) about Borobudur—whether in its musical strains, the warmth of community smiles, or the evening light falling on temple stones.

Through this cultural stage, Borobudur transcends being a mere destination, becoming a living place where longing resides. (Antara)
