Bogor – Pakansari Stadium witnessed the massive public enthusiasm for the Indonesian National Team as they faced Vietnam in the Group A fixture of the 2026 AFF Cup (ASEAN Hyundai Cup), on Monday evening (3/8/2026).
Since early afternoon, thousands of supporters had packed the stadium to show backing for the Garuda squad in this high-stakes match.

On the pitch, Vietnam performed with greater effectiveness and discipline. The away side opened the scoring in the 6th minute through Nguyen Van Vi, who ran onto a through ball from Nguyen Hoang Duc before beating Nadeo Argawinata.
Indonesia attempted to respond with a chance for Mitchell Baker from Ivar Jenner's pass, but the finishing effort was safely held by Patrik Le Giang.
Rather than equalising, Indonesia conceded again in the 15th minute. A sharp Vietnam counterattack was finished cleanly by Nguyen Hai Long, doubling their advantage to 2-0. This scoreline remained unchanged at the half time break.
Entering the second half, Garuda attempted to raise their attacking intensity. Thom Haye and Mitchell Baker both got clear golden opportunities, but Patrik Le Giang's outstanding performance between the posts denied Indonesia any chance of closing the deficit.
Vietnam instead sealed their victory in the 71st minute, when Nguyen Xuan Son beat the offside trap and converted an accurate final pass from Nguyen Hoang Duc for their third goal.
Indonesia kept pushing for a consolation goal late on, with Rizky Eka getting a headed chance right before full time. Once again however, Patrik Le Giang denied the effort. When the referee blew the final whistle, Vietnam retained their 3-0 lead.
This result moves Vietnam to the top of the provisional Group A standings with seven points, ahead of Singapore on goal difference.
Indonesia dropped to third place, having collected six points from three matches played. Despite this, Garuda still hold an open chance to qualify for the semi-finals.
Indonesia must secure three points when they face Singapore in the final group stage fixture on 7 August. Failure to win will end Indonesia's 2026 AFF Cup campaign.
Indonesian National Team head coach John Herdman acknowledged that Vietnam deserved the victory, having outperformed Indonesia particularly in tactical execution.
"We have to accept that our performance tonight was not good enough. Tactically, they were superior," stated Herdman after the match.
The 51-year old coach emphasised that this defeat must immediately be used for full squad evaluation. With very short preparation time ahead of the Singapore fixture, the entire team must regroup and recover immediately.
"As a coach in this job you have to learn fast, extremely fast. This next match against Singapore is coming up very, very quickly," he added.
Herdman also urged his players to put this disappointing result behind them, and shift full focus onto the upcoming decisive match. He stressed that Indonesia's fate remains fully in their own hands, as long as they can secure victory against Singapore.
Amidst the disappointment of the match result, the unwavering fan support became the most memorable sight at Pakansari Stadium. Thousands of supporters stayed until the very end of the match, applauding and singing encouragement for the players as they left the pitch.
This heavy defeat may have been a blow for Garuda, but it did not diminish the public's hope for the team.
The full capacity crowd at Pakansari Stadium proved that public love for the Indonesian National Team only continues to grow. This unbroken support, even after the 0-3 loss, is valuable energy that will carry the Garuda squad to bounce back.
