Putri KW is Just One Step Away From Entering the BWF World Top Five Rankings.

Putri Kusuma Wardani has demonstrated consistent form at the elite level of international badminton. In the latest world rankings published by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Tuesday, the Indonesian women's singles shuttler held steady at 6th position globally.

Putri remains the only Indonesian representative inside the top 50 of the women's singles rankings, standing as clear proof of her progression throughout the 2026 competitive season.

The 24-year-old athlete has accumulated 76,473 ranking points, placing her within striking distance of the world top 5. Only 565 points separate Putri from current 5th ranked player Han Yue of China.

Even so, competition at the upper end of the rankings remains extremely tight. Putri faces pressure from former world number one Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand, who sits in 7th place with 74,606 points -- a gap of just 1,867 points behind the Indonesian.

Putri's ranking position is directly built on strong results from two prestigious Asian tour tournaments.

At the Japan Open Super 750, Putri pulled off a major upset in the quarter final stage, defeating world number 2 seed Wang Zhi Yi in a three-game battle that finished 9-21, 21-17, 21-4. This strong run carried her all the way through to the tournament semi-finals.

This positive momentum continued at the Super 1000 China Open. Putri proved her elite competitiveness by advancing once again to the quarter finals, before her run was ended by Japan's Tomoka Miyazaki.

In that match, Putri won the opening game before ultimately falling with a final scoreline of 21-16, 11-21, 9-21.

Elsewhere for Indonesia, Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan also showed positive progression. She recorded the strongest ranking climb among all Indonesian players, rising three positions to 53rd in the world with 30,601 points.

By contrast, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung suffered the most substantial ranking drop. The 2024 Paris Olympic bronze medallist fell 33 positions to 100th place globally with 19,120 points, after an extended competitive absence due to health complications.

Gregoria had formally withdrawn from the PBSI national training centre back in May to focus full time on her recovery process. With no international tournament appearances, her ranking points have continued to deplete steadily.

Tomoka Miyazaki's performance at the China Open also shifted the upper rankings. The Japanese shuttler recorded the biggest climb inside the world top 10, jumping two positions to 8th place with a total of 68,106 points.

At the very summit of the world rankings, South Korea's An Se Young retains her hold on first position with 117,787 points.

China Open champion Akane Yamaguchi rose one spot to 2nd position with 104,576 points. This move pushed Wang Zhi Yi down to 3rd place with 102,689 points, Chen Yu Fei remains static in 4th, while Han Yue completes the current world top 5.
