The Indonesia national football team began their 2026 AFF Cup campaign with a dominant victory. Playing at Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong, Bogor on Monday evening, 27 July WIB, the Garuda Squad thrashed Cambodia 5-1 thanks to the lethal combination of Mitchell Baker and Thom Haye.

Baker was named man of the match after scoring a hat-trick on his debut for the Indonesia national team. Meanwhile, Thom Haye displayed his quality as a playmaker by providing three assists that formed the foundation of Garuda's win.

The pair's chemistry was evident right from the opening minutes of the match. Baker netted his first goal in the 6th minute from a set piece. Thom Haye's delivery into the penalty area was met with a headed finish from Baker that beat Cambodia's goalkeeper Kimhuy Hul.

This early goal further lifted the Garuda squad's confidence. Just nine minutes later, Baker found the back of the net once again.

On this occasion, Eliano Reijnders made a driving run down the right flank before sending in a cross which Baker converted with a close range tap-in in the 15th minute.

After the break, the Baker and Thom Haye partnership continued to prove highly effective. In the 56th minute, Baker completed his hat-trick by finishing off a perfectly weighted through ball from Haye.

Baker's header nestled into the bottom left corner of Cambodia's goal, sealing his hat-trick on his first ever appearance for the national team.

Alongside setting up Baker, Haye registered his third assist from another set piece routine. Sandy Walsh connected with Haye's corner kick with an accurate header to extend Indonesia's lead.

Indonesia's final goal was scored by Jens Raven in the 86th minute.

"This is a dream come true. It is an incredible feeling. I would never be here without this team, the coaching staff, and every single person that has supported me," he stated after the final whistle.

Baker stressed that his hat-trick was the product of collective hard work across the entire squad, not an individual achievement.

He explained that this victory over Cambodia provides vital momentum ahead of their remaining Group A fixtures.

"We will enjoy this win, but we have another match in just a few days time. We must keep working hard," he added.

This 5-1 result not only got Indonesia's 2026 AFF Cup campaign off to a perfect start with three points, it also demonstrated the huge potential of the Baker and Thom Haye partnership as Garuda's primary attacking weapon.
