As April draws to a close, Jakarta once again proves itself a city that never truly sleeps. Behind the rhythm of traffic and towering buildings, the capital offers a colorful Weekend, ranging from the chime of jazz at a legendary arts center, literary exhibitions, to the scent of sea adventures and the outdoors at a modern convention space.
For residents of the capital still seeking a reason to leave home, recommendations from the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office can serve as a small map towards new experiences. These five events offer the full spectrum of Jakarta: urban, creative, traditional, and full of energy.

As night falls in Central Jakarta, Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) will transform into a meeting space for sounds and ideas.
Jazz Goes to Campus (JGTC) presents "The City Series", a concept blending musical performances with discussion spaces.
This event doesn't just present jazz as entertainment, but also as a language transcending generations. An effort to bring music often perceived as exclusive closer to the city's dynamics and Younger Generations.
Held on Saturday, 25 April 2026 at 18:30 WIB in the Main Theater of Taman Ismail Marzuki, this event can be enjoyed free of charge.
2. Tracing Indonesia's Literary Trail: Majalah Horison Exhibition
Still in the TIM area, literature lovers can head to the Galeri Balai Sastra PDS HB Jassin. There, the exhibition themed "What Emerged, What Submerged: 60 Years of Majalah Horison" opens important pages of Indonesian literary history.
Majalah Horison was once home to many major figures in national literature. In this exhibition, visitors can see short stories, poems, over 30 illustrations from the period 1966 to 1990, as well as photo archives showing the close relationship between the literary world and the arts ecosystem at TIM.
The exhibition runs on Saturday, 25 April 2026 from 09:00–22:00 WIB and is free to the public.
3. Kecak Under the Jakarta Sky
No need to fly to Bali to feel the magic of the Kecak dance. On Sunday night, 26 April 2026, the Amphitheater Panggung Budaya at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) will present "The Mystical Kecak Dance".
Dozens of "cak" voices echoing in unison blend with the night light to create a captivating experience.
This performance proves that Nusantara traditions can strongly exist amidst Jakarta's metropolitan landscape.
The event starts at 19:30 WIB with the TMII area entrance ticket.
4. Batik as a Journey Story: Metamorphosis
At Menara Kompas, Central Jakarta, batik appears not merely as cloth, but as an evolving cultural narrative. The "Metamorfosa" (Metamorphosis) Batik Exhibition showcases the acculturation of Peranakan batik from Jakarta, Cirebon, Pekalongan, to Lasem.
Each motif carries traces of cultural encounters, trade, and the long history of the Nusantara coast. Though diverse, they are all connected by one common thread: openness to external influences.
The exhibition runs until 5 May 2026 at the Bentara Budaya Art Gallery 8th floor and can be visited free of charge from 10:00–17:00 WIB.
5. Exploring the Sea and Outdoors at DXI 2026
For adventurous souls, Hall B at the Jakarta International Convention Center offers a doorway to the underwater world and outdoor Lifestyles. Deep and Extreme Indonesia (DXI) 2026 arrives with the theme DAREtoXPLORE: Waves of Collaboration.
This exhibition becomes a meeting place for divers, Marine Tourism enthusiasts, climbers, to beginners wanting to try new activities in the great outdoors. From Diving destinations to the latest outdoor gear, it's all gathered in one space.
DXI runs from 23–26 April 2026, 10:00–21:00 WIB, with tickets priced at Rp50,000.
