Thibaut Courtois has recorded an outstanding achievement on the global Football stage. The Belgium national team Goalkeeper has joined the list of goalkeepers with the most clean sheets in World Cup history, after conceding no goals against Iran in the second match of 2026 World Cup Group G.
Belgium played a goalless draw against Iran at Los Angeles Stadium, United States, on Monday. Despite failing to secure a win for The Red Devils, Courtois still became the centre of attention thanks to his solid performance between the goalposts.
The Real Madrid goalkeeper registered his 8th World Cup final tournament clean sheet from a total of 17 appearances. This record places him on equal standing with a number of legendary figures that have graced the history of football's biggest global tournament.

The former Chelsea goalkeeper is now part of this elite group alongside Jan Jongbloed, Leao, Sepp Maier, Taffarel and Hugo Lloris, who have all also collected eight clean sheet matches at the World Cup.
This achievement further solidifies Courtois' reputation as one of the best goalkeepers of his era. Since making his World Cup debut, the player nicknamed "The Giraffe" has always been Belgium's trusted mainstay, thanks to his fast reflexes, game reading ability and calm composure when guarding the defensive line.
Courtois' journey to make history is not yet over. With Belgium still holding good chances to progress far in the 2026 World Cup, the opportunity to add more clean sheets remains wide open.
Currently, the all-time World Cup record for most clean sheets by a goalkeeper is still held by two global Football Legends, Fabian Barthez and Peter Shilton. Both players recorded 10 clean sheets from 17 appearances each.
This means Courtois is only two clean sheet matches away from equalling their record. If Belgium can advance to the final phases of the tournament, it is very possible that he will become the new record holder.
