Jakarta - The new World Champion for the World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight division (66.6 kg), Ryan "King Ry" Garcia, has reaffirmed his commitment as holder of the division's highest title. The unorthodox professional boxer from the United States publicly stated he is ready to compete against any opponent to prove he is a legitimate world Champion.

"I am the kind of person that will fight anyone, above all when every fight term is equal and fair. I am never afraid," Garcia stated during an interview on the Complex podcast, monitored from Jakarta on Monday, 8 June 2026.

The 27 year old fighter finally claimed the world title after spending years facing widespread criticism over his focus and competitive consistency. Garcia silenced all doubters with a clean unanimous decision victory over fellow American boxer Mario Barrios, held in Las Vegas in February 2026.

Delivering a dominant performance where he controlled fight tempo from the opening round, this win became the critical turning point that returned Garcia to the elite ranks of World Professional Boxing.

Unconfirmed Proposed Bout Against Conor Benn

After previously openly campaigning for a high-Profile rematch against his bitter amateur era rival and WBO junior welterweight champion Shakur Stevenson, Garcia made a surprise announcement regarding his next planned opponent.

The fighter with a professional Record of 25 wins (20 knockouts), 2 losses and 1 no contest has claimed he will next face Conor Benn. Garcia even publicly named a specific proposed date and venue: 12 September at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.

However, this unilateral claim from "King Ry" has not yet passed formal negotiation processes. As of this report, no official confirmation has been issued by either fighter's promotional teams, with advanced talks still ongoing over contract clauses and final fight purse agreements.

Champion Responsibilities At 147lbs Welterweight

Regardless of who will eventually be confirmed as his official next opponent, Garcia stated he carries a great responsibility to uphold the honour of the WBC world title belt he holds, and refuses to be trapped in promotional politics that damage this Sport.

He emphasised that his willingness to compete in boxing's most competitive weight class is proof he is not a paper champion. "Look at the 147 pound division right now, everyone wants to fight here. I will absolutely prove to fight fans that I am a worthy world champion," Garcia stated with confidence.

With this firm public stance, "King Ry" intends to prove that winning the WBC world title was not an accidental fluke.

Carrying the mentality of never hand-picking easy opponents, Garcia aims to convince the global boxing world that he is the undisputed ruler of the welterweight division. Far from just media talk, he has stated he is a real champion that will defeat anyone brave enough to step into the ring against him.
