Monaco - Teenage Formula 1 sensation Formula 1, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, has proven he is operating on an entirely different level. The 19-year old Mercedes driver claimed his fifth consecutive victory of the season this Sunday, 7 June 2026 WIB, after mastering the famously unforgiving Monte Carlo street circuit at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Conquering Monaco's brutal challenge has not only cemented his status as the overwhelming favourite for the 2026 World Championship, but also etched his name into the record books as one of the most dominant young drivers ever seen at the start of a modern Formula 1 campaign.
According to official Formula 1 statistics, the Italian Wonderkid now sits comfortably atop the provisional Standings with a spectacular haul of 156 points, holding a massive 66 point gap over second placed Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari.

Having qualified on pole position, Antonelli was effectively untouchable from the moment the starting lights went out right until he crossed the finish line. While the tight confines of Monte Carlo claimed seven top drivers through a string of unexpected incidents, the young Wonderkid displayed remarkable mental composure to steer clear of all the chaos and maintain his clean race line.
Verstappen's Nightmare Start & Antonelli's Total Control
Drama erupted immediately at the race start. Antonelli launched perfectly from pole to instantly pull clear and take control of the race. Disaster struck defending world Champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing however: an anti-stall system failure on his car saw him drop straight to the back of the field, before he was forced to retire into the pits and become the race's first Did Not Finish (DNF).
Up front, Antonelli steadily pulled away from the chasing Ferrari pair of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. None of his rivals could match the raw pace of his Mercedes around the narrow Monte Carlo streets.
Late Race Chaos And Penalty Rain
This edition of the Monaco Grand Prix lived up to its reputation as a brutal test, with a total of seven drivers failing to reach the chequered flag. Charles Leclerc and Lance Stroll both saw their races end when they crashed into the circuit barriers during the critical closing laps.
There was also heartbreak for Lando Norris. The McLaren driver suffered a sudden power loss, forcing him to retire and record his first scoreless race of the entire season. The casualty list grew further with retirements for Ollie Bearman, Carlos Sainz, and Valtteri Bottas, who once again struggled with brake issues throughout the race Weekend.
More chaos unfolded after the race restart period, with Carlos Sainz, Nico Hulkenberg and Franco Colapinto involved in two separate collisions. Williams' Alex Albon was able to capitalise on the carnage to climb into the top 10, becoming the only Williams driver to score points in Monaco. Meanwhile, Alpine's Colapinto recovered from his incident to finish as the last classified runner in 14th place, just behind Audi's Hulkenberg.
Hamilton Secures Podium, Russell Left Frustrated
Lewis Hamilton ultimately crossed the line in second place after delivering a consistent, measured drive throughout the grand prix. Red Bull driver Isack Hadjar also benefitted from the string of incidents ahead of him to claim a career-best third place podium finish.
Outside the points positions, Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin came home in 11th place, just ahead of Audi rookie Gabriel Bortoleto. There was bitter disappointment for George Russell: Antonelli's Mercedes team mate finished outside the top 10 after being handed multiple penalties for race infringements.
