International friendly match ANTARA between the Denmark and Ukraine national teams at Odense Stadium on Sunday, 7 June 2026, had to be halted after Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered a medical incident during the second half.

The incident occurred in the 65th minute when Eriksen suddenly collapsed on the pitch while the match was still ongoing. This immediately turned the atmosphere inside the stadium tense and sparked concern among every party present.

According to Sport Illustrated reports, the player currently contracted to Wolfsburg was seen clutching his chest before falling over and losing consciousness.

The incident immediately drew the attention of all players from both teams. Coaching staff, medical personnel, and even Eriksen's family members who were attending the match immediately rushed onto the pitch area to check on his condition.

Denmark's medical team quickly administered emergency first aid. Multiple players were also visibly calling for urgent medical assistance the moment they realised the severity of Eriksen's situation.

In positive news, after receiving intensive on-pitch treatment, the 34-year old successfully regained consciousness. Eriksen was then able to stand and walk off the pitch unassisted, which was immediately met with long, resounding applause from the full stadium crowd.

Due to safety considerations and the circumstances making it unfeasible to resume the match, organisers ultimately decided to abandon the fixture early.

Several hours after the incident, the Danish Football Association (DBU) published an official update on Eriksen's condition via their verified account on the X social media platform.

"Christian Eriksen is in stable condition and walked off this pitch unassisted. He will undergo a full series of medical examinations at hospital to determine the exact cause of this incident. Christian is okay. He asked me to pass on his regards to all the players and confirm that he is doing fine," stated Denmark national team doctor Morten Boesen.

Denmark head coach Brian Riemer confirmed that everyone present at the stadium experienced emotional shock following the incident, but expressed relief that Eriksen's condition had now improved.

"First and foremost, this was an extremely distressing experience for absolutely everyone: our staff, the players, and the opposing team too. Doctor Morten Boesen has confirmed Christian is okay. That is the only thing that matters in this situation," Riemer told TV2.

This latest incident has once again reminded the global football community of the dramatic event Eriksen endured while representing Denmark at the Euro 2021 tournament.

At that time, Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest mid-match and required emergency life-saving intervention, before later receiving an implanted pacemaker. Despite widespread doubts that he would ever return to professional football, he successfully resumed his career at the highest level of European Football.

As of current reporting, the exact cause of Eriksen's collapse during the Ukraine match remains unconfirmed. Medical teams are continuing to run full follow-up examinations to properly assess the player's condition and identify the trigger for this incident.
