Indonesia was highlighted for its advantage of having an exceptionally vast and varied geographic terrain. As the world's largest archipelagic nation, it comprises over 17,000 islands stretching from west to east, delivering a huge range of distinct natural landscapes all within one sovereign country.
Indonesia's Natural Beauty encompasses dense tropical rainforests, active volcanoes, white sand beaches, and clusters of small islets scattered across clear blue ocean waters. This diversity positions Indonesia as one of the most complete Nature Tourism destinations on Earth.
The island of Bali is one of the finest showcases of the archipelago's natural charm. Beyond its established reputation as an International Tourism hub, Bali offers a signature combination of green terraced rice fields, exotic coastlines, and volcanic mountains that define the Island of the Gods.
One of Bali's core cultural and natural attractions is its traditional subak irrigation system, which has been formally listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
These tiered rice fields that blanket the island's hillsides function not only as productive agricultural land, but also as iconic tourist landscapes that draw millions of international visitors annually.
Beyond Bali's widespread fame, Indonesia hosts many Nature Destinations that remain largely undiscovered by mainstream tourists.
One such location is Raja Ampat in Southwest Papua, recognised globally as one of the most biodiverse marine regions on the planet.
The waters of Raja Ampat are home to thousands of fish species and Coral Reefs. This underwater paradise is consistently ranked as a top bucket list destination for scuba divers and underwater photographers worldwide.
Indonesia's natural wealth extends far beyond its oceans. Vast tropical forest zones in Kalimantan and Sumatra are critical habitats for numerous endemic animal species found nowhere else on Earth.
Orangutans, Sumatran tigers, and Bornean pygmy elephants represent just a small fraction of the unique wildlife living in Indonesia's forests. The presence of these rare species further solidifies Indonesia's standing as one of the most biodiverse nations in the world.
Japan earned its place on the ranking thanks to the iconic combination of Mount Fuji, ancient bamboo forests, natural Hot Springs, and seasonal cherry blossom displays, which deliver completely distinct visitor experiences throughout the year.
Nepal also featured on the list, driven by the Himalayan mountain range which hosts eight out of the ten highest peaks on Earth.
This mountain nation offers high altitude panoramas that are the lifelong ambition of mountaineers and wilderness enthusiasts across the globe.
Italy captivates visitors with its diverse landscape range, from the rolling vineyard hills of Tuscany, to the dramatic peaks of the Dolomites, and the famous cliffside Amalfi Coast along the Mediterranean.
Other nations included on the final ranking are the Maldives with its tropical coral atolls, Iceland with its volcanic terrain and northern lights, Switzerland with its iconic Alpine panoramas, and Costa Rica which boasts extraordinary biodiversity despite its relatively small landmass.
