Amid increasingly intense competition between tropical destinations in Southeast Asia, Singapore has solidified its position as the region's cultural and tourism hub. This city-state has been named the best country for culture and tourism in Southeast Asia for 2026.

This ranking, compiled by U.S. News & World Report in partnership with the University of Pennsylvania,
places Singapore at 22nd position globally out of 100 countries and territories in the culture and tourism category.

This ranking puts the Lion City ahead of all other Southeast Asian nations, including Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Unlike previous editions, this year's ranking uses a data-driven methodology to determine the position of every assessed country and territory.

The new evaluation system scores two equally weighted core factors: global influence, plus Cultural Heritage and appeal.

This approach is regarded as far more objective than the old method, which relied entirely on perception data gathered from surveys with industry experts and business leaders.

Singapore's success is reflected not only in its international reputation, but also in its remarkable economic performance figures.

As cited by The Straits Times, Singapore recorded an all-time high tourism sector revenue of S$32.8 billion in 2025.

This revenue marked a 10 percent increase from the previous year. Over the same period, international visitor arrivals surged to 16.9 million visits.

Singapore continues to build its brand as a modern urban destination, combining luxury, operational efficiency, and cultural diversity within its small geographical footprint.

From heritage districts such as Chinatown and Kampong Glam to the futuristic skyline of Marina Bay, the visitor experience in Singapore delivers a blend of tradition and innovation that remains unmatched across Southeast Asia.

The Singaporean government has shown no intention of stopping at its current achievements.

To strengthen the resilience of its tourism industry over the next five years, the government announced a S$740 million tourism funding package.

This allocation is more than double the S$300 million Tourism Development Fund budget released for 2024.

This aggressive policy also forms part of Singapore's long-term strategy to maintain sustained growth in visitor numbers.

For 2026, Singapore projects international arrivals will reach 17 to 18 million visitors, with forecast tourism sector revenue falling between S$31 billion and S$32.5 billion.

Alongside strengthening its aviation and hospitality sectors, Singapore is now shifting focus towards Cruise Tourism.

Volatile jet fuel prices, combined with airspace disruptions across the Middle East, have created new challenges for global Air Travel.

Against this backdrop, Cruise Tourism is viewed as a strategic opportunity to attract more international travellers to the Asian region.

On the global ranking, the United States secured first place as the best country for tourism, followed by Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
