France's journey towards 2026 World Cup unfolds as a long expedition spanning three very different faces of North America. From the colossal stadiums across United States, Canada's cosmopolitan match atmosphere, to the raw football passion of Mexico, Les Bleus will field a new generation whose attacking line is now heavily dominated by Paris Saint-Germain players.

France national team head coach Didier Deschamps has officially named the 26-man squad that will compete at the 2026 World Cup hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico. Among the selected players, the influence of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is unmistakably strong in the forward line.

Ousmane Dembélé, Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola are the Paris-based club's representatives called up for Les Bleus.

These three will line up alongside Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid), Michael Olise (Bayern Munich), Rayan Cherki (Manchester City) and Marcus Thuram (Inter Milan) to form one of the most explosive attacking units at the upcoming tournament.

Deschamps' selection demonstrates how French football has matured into a refined blend of technique, creativity and pace forged through top-tier European competition. Young talents such as Doue and Cherki bring fresh, unpredictable energy to Les Bleus' World Cup campaign.

Among all the star names included, the call-up of Jean-Philippe Mateta stands out as the biggest surprise. The Crystal Palace striker has only earned 3 senior international caps, but impressed Deschamps enough to earn a spot ahead of football's biggest global football tournament.

In contrast, Randal Kolo Muani's involvement with the national team has been paused. The PSG forward was omitted from the final squad after failing to deliver consistent form during his loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur.

The official announcement published by the French Football Federation (FFF) on Thursday 14 May carries particular emotional weight. This tournament will mark Didier Deschamps' final campaign in charge of Les Bleus before he steps down from the head coach role.

Deschamps, who led France to World Cup glory in 2018, still holds huge ambitions. He is targeting a third consecutive World Cup final appearance for France, an achievement almost unheard of in modern international football.

Deschamps also demonstrated his ruthless decision making by leaving out Eduardo Camavinga. The Real Madrid midfielder struggled for consistent game time at club level this season, costing him a place in the final squad.

For the midfield, experience remains France's core foundation. N'Golo Kanté, currently playing for Fenerbahçe, will feature in his third World Cup tournament for Les Bleus.

Kanté will operate alongside Manu Kone, Warren Zaire-Emery and Aurélien Tchouaméni to control the centre of the pitch, in a perfectly balanced combination of veteran know-how and raw youthful energy.

France's defensive line is also packed with elite European talent, including William Saliba, Ibrahima Konaté and Malo Gusto.

Mike Maignan retains his position as first choice Goalkeeper, and will be backed up by Brice Samba and Robin Risser for the duration of the tournament.

France have been drawn into Group I. They will open their World Cup campaign against Senegal on 17 June at the MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, before facing Iraq and Norway in their remaining group matches.

Prior to travelling to North America, France will complete their final preparations with two friendly matches, against Ivory Coast on 5 June and Northern Ireland on 9 June.
