Stretches of white sand, Giant Granite Rock formations, and clear blue waters make Belitung one of Indonesia's tropical gems. To open wider access for International Tourists, the Ministry of Tourism has launched a new strategy: direct flights from Singapore to Tanjung Pandan.
This initiative was realised through collaboration with an international airline, which officially opened the Singapore–Tanjung Pandan route on 3 May 2026.
This new air route is regarded as a gateway to strengthen foreign tourist flows, particularly from the Singapore market.

International Flights to Belitung Resume, Tourism Revives
Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, assessed that the launch of this direct access forms a critical part of expanding Indonesian Tourism's reach to international markets.
"The launch of this new route is expected to increase Tourist Visits by international travellers, especially from Singapore, to one of Indonesia's Priority Tourism Destinations," Ni Made Ayu Marthini stated in an official announcement in Jakarta on Thursday.
During the initial phase, flights will operate twice weekly, every Wednesday and Sunday, with a seating capacity of 112 passengers per flight.
Despite only just commencing operations, market response has been considered promising. The inaugural flight recorded a 73.2% load factor, carrying 82 passengers.
This figure indicates that Belitung is starting to be recognised as a highly competitive destination in the eyes of international travellers.
Its geographical proximity to Singapore provides a unique advantage, particularly for travellers seeking short getaways with peaceful tropical surroundings.
According to Made, Belitung's tourism character aligns very well with the preferences of Singaporean Tourists, who generally favour quality leisure experiences, marine tourism, and local culinary exploration.
"Belitung holds extremely strong Tourism Potential that matches Singaporean traveller preferences, from marine attractions and local cuisine through to premium leisure experiences. The opening of this route is a strategic step to expand international tourist access to Belitung," Made stated.
On the island, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the iconic granite rocks along the coastlines, go island hopping to small islets surrounded by crystal clear waters, and savour fresh seafood dishes.
Its quiet, relatively uncrowded landscape also sets Belitung apart from other tropical destinations across the Asian region.
Through the launch of this direct route, the Ministry of Tourism alongside all relevant stakeholders are working to strengthen promotional efforts in the Singapore market, to raise awareness of Belitung as a travel destination.
This strategy is expected to sustain positive passenger growth trends, while also solidifying Belitung's position as one of Indonesia's flagship destinations on the International Tourism stage.
