Napoli's surprising defeat signals that the race for Serie A's Champions League ticket for the 2025/2026 Season hasn't reached safe territory yet. Playing at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples early Tuesday morning WIB, Antonio Conte's team was forced to surrender 2-3 to Bologna in the 36th week of Serie A.

Napoli actually had the opportunity to strengthen their top-table position. However, Bologna played more effectively by stunning the home crowd with two quick goals from Federico Bernardeschi and Riccardo Orsolini.

Trailing by two goals forced Napoli to increase their attacking intensity. Team captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo narrowed the deficit before Alisson Santos equalized and revived the hosts' hopes of securing crucial points.

But drama struck during injury time. Young striker Jonathan Rowe emerged as the difference-maker after scoring Bologna's winning goal.

The result doesn't change Napoli's position in second place of the provisional Serie A standings with 70 points from 36 matches. However, despite remaining on the Champions League path, their position isn't entirely secure with two matches left this season.

Serie A Champions League Race Intensifies

The battle for Champions League tickets from Serie A has now entered its most decisive phase. Five teams are still competing to secure the three remaining slots joining Inter Milan, who've already guaranteed qualification to Europe's elite competition.

Napoli still leads the chase behind Inter Milan. But pressure comes from Juventus, AC Milan, AS Roma, and even Como 1907, who continue to keep their chances alive.

Juventus maintained momentum after defeating Lecce 1-0 early Sunday morning WIB. Meanwhile, AS Roma secured an important victory after overcoming Parma 3-2 at their opponent's home ground.

Como 1907 remains this season's surprise package after defeating Hellas Verona 1-0 to sustain their Champions League aspirations.

Conversely, AC Milan dropped three vital points after falling 2-3 to Atalanta early Monday morning WIB.

That loss leaves the Rossoneri stalled in fourth place with 67 points, just below Juventus who hold 68 points in third.

AS Roma closely trail in fifth place with 67 points, while Como continues to shadow them with 65 points. With narrow point margins and two matches remaining, the battle for Serie A's Champions League tickets is guaranteed to stay heated until the final week.
