MotoGP has updated regulations ahead of the 2026 French GP at Bugatti Circuit. Race Direction officially implemented a new protocol regarding pit lane entry procedures to be applied throughout the race Weekend in Le Mans.

The new rules were announced as part of efforts to enhance safety and order in the pit lane area, one of the most critical points in modern MotoGP Racing.

These regulations apply to all sessions, from Free practice and qualifying to Sprint Race and the main race.

Under the new provisions, all riders must use the official pit lane entry marked by white dashed lines.

This path includes the pit lane entry timing point that every rider must pass through.

This policy resulted from joint agreement between MotoGP teams and the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme to minimize risks in increasingly crowded and complex pit lane areas.

MotoGP's official release states riders may only enter the pit lane via the designated official route, including passing through the pit lane entry timing point.

Any rider failing to follow the white dashed line path or neglecting to use the full pit entry lane may face penalties from FIM MotoGP Stewards.

Penalties can be imposed during practice sessions or mid-race.

Race Direction emphasized that each circuit retains additional rules adapted to its specific track layout characteristics.

Therefore, specific information released by Race Direction at each round will remain the reference throughout the 2026 MotoGP season.

This new regulation is expected to significantly tighten monitoring of rider movements in pit lanes, especially during bike swaps or weather-triggered strategy changes.

Revised Delayed Start Duration Rules

Alongside pit lane procedure updates, MotoGP previously revised delayed start timing rules effective since this season's Spanish GP.

Article 1.18.18 of racing regulations now extends the start preparation countdown from three minutes to five minutes.

"This gives teams adequate warning about when to stop working, indicated at the three-minute board," stated MotoGP.

The change followed observations that teams frequently ignored the three-minute countdown board while working on bikes before race starts.

With extended five-minute preparation, MotoGP hopes teams will have more ideal working time to complete bike preparations without disrupting official start procedures.

This move demonstrates MotoGP's continuous efforts to adapt regulations to technical developments and modern racing dynamics, particularly to maintain safety and operational efficiency on track.
