Amid growing interest in international travel among Indonesians, Taiwan is strengthening its position as a new Favorite Destination for Indonesian travelers. Through promotional activities held from April 30 to May 7, 2026, Taiwan adopted a distinct approach to attract modern tourists—from interactive travel fairs to enhancing Muslim-Friendly Tourism.
This aggressive strategy materialized through the Taiwan Travel Fair at the popular lifestyle hub PIK Avenue in Jakarta, alongside tourism workshops in Jakarta and Medan. Taiwan deployed delegations of airlines, travel agencies, and tourism stakeholders to tap into Indonesia's expanding market.
Selecting PIK Avenue as the venue was strategic. Pantai Indah Kapuk is renowned as a bustling urban lifestyle center frequented by youth, modern families, and high-spending demographics.

The timing leverages the period when many Indonesian families begin planning school holidays. Taiwan aims to attract tourists seeking easily accessible international destinations with comprehensive experiences distinct from mainstream Asian spots.
Taiwan Promotes 24-Hour Tourism Concept
This year's theme "Taiwan Never Sleeps" highlights non-stop 24-hour tourism experiences.
Travelers can explore vibrant night markets late into the evening, hunt for iconic Taiwanese street food, enjoy nightlife entertainment, and visit cultural sites that remain lively after sunset. This concept appeals to tourists maximizing limited holiday time.
According to Abe Chou, Director of Taiwan Tourism Information Center, collaboration with tourism industries is key to converting interest into actual visits.
"He added that the presence of travel agents and airlines allows visitors to not only gather information but also purchase tour packages with attractive deals on the spot."
Direct access to agents and carriers enables travel fair attendees to secure promotions and consult on optimal Taiwan itineraries.
Muslim-Friendly Tourism as Development Focus
A core strategy to attract Indonesian Tourists is expanding Muslim-friendly tourism. Recently, Taiwan has increased halal facilities and support services for Muslim travelers.
Halal-certified restaurants, prayer rooms at Tourist Destinations, and Muslim-friendly amenities in public areas are now widely available across Taiwan.
"These measures ensure safe and comfortable holiday experiences for Indonesian Muslim tourists," he stated.
This approach is vital given Indonesia's status as one of Southeast Asia's largest Muslim travel markets.
Indonesia as Strategic Market for Taiwan
Deputy Representative of Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Indonesia, Trust H. J. Lin, emphasized Indonesia's significant potential for Taiwan's tourism growth.
Rapid middle-class expansion, stable economic conditions, and rising interest in international travel drive Taiwan's intensified focus on the Indonesian market.
"Through these promotions, Taiwan aims not only to boost Tourist Visits but also to strengthen people-to-people ties between both nations," he said.
By promoting in Jakarta and Medan, Taiwan seeks to build emotional connections with Indonesian travelers. With its blend of modern attractions, unique cuisine, distinctive culture, and increasingly Muslim-friendly facilities, Taiwan is confident about becoming a top international destination for Indonesians in coming years.
