Amid the crisis of the Italian National Team after failing to qualify for the World Cup FIFA 2026, an influential voice emerged from Jose Mourinho. The highly experienced coach considers Massimiliano Allegri the most suitable figure to lead the resurgence of Gli Azzurri.
The situation in Italian Football is turbulent. The FIGC leadership seat is under scrutiny after being vacated by Gabriele Gravina, following the national team's failure to reach the World Cup for the third consecutive time.
The name Giovanni Malago has emerged as the strongest candidate to lead the federation.

Amid this dynamic, the debate over who is most qualified to handle the national team has become increasingly prominent. Besides Allegri, the name Antonio Conte is also in the candidate pool. However, Mourinho has a firm view on the direction Italy must take.
According to him, Italy has coaches with charisma, quality, and experience, so it doesn't need a foreign coach.
"You can't get Carletto (Ancelotti), of course, but there is still Max (Allegri), Antonio (Conte), and other good coaches. However, there are some things that need to be fixed again," he said, quoted from Sempremilan.
Mourinho emphasized that Italy shouldn't lack talent. He even compared it to other countries capable of maximizing potential from their Football Development systems.
"Take Portugal, a country with about 10 million inhabitants, it has youth competitions and a very good working system. The difference is clear."
"Just look at the quality of Portuguese Players emerging every week. Even their coach struggles to decide who should sit on the bench," Mourinho continued.
Beyond just appointing a coach, Mourinho sees a need for deeper structural change. He believes reform at the grassroots level is key to the future resurgence of Italian Football.
The former Inter Milan Coach said Italy needs to think deeply about the grassroots. He stated Malagò understands the need to change the grassroots structure.
"Italy is actually very strong in many Olympic Sports. I would choose the M&M combination: Malagò and Max (Allegri)," he concluded.
