Junior Golfer Jayawardana Dornan impressed on the first day of The JGS Elite International Championship 2026 by leading the Boys Class A standings after carding a 4-under score at Royale Jakarta Golf Club, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
The international junior tournament held from April 28–30, 2026 opened under unfavorable weather conditions. Morning Rain even sparked concerns of lightning delays. Nevertheless, competition proceeded with a shotgun start at 06:40 AM WIB.
Forty-eight junior golfers across Boys and Girls Classes A to D participated on the opening day. Despite the rain-soaked course, Jayawardana maintained consistent play to finish as the provisional Boys Class A leader.

"I shot 4 under today and I'm quite pleased. With morning rain and lightning threats, I wasn't sure we'd start, but we played through some wet holes," Jayawardana stated post-round.
The young Golfer acknowledged overall solid performance while noting areas for improvement. He credited competitive scoring largely to effective Putting.
"I played fairly well today. Missed some short putts but my putting held up. Tomorrow I'll focus more on par-5s," he added.
Jayawardana highlighted two critical late-round turning points: sinking lengthy putts on holes 7 and 6 (his 5th and 16th holes).
"I didn't hit many great long shots, but made excellent putts toward the end—two 20-footers to secure 4-under," he explained.
Despite dominance, Jayawardana faced pressure when his ball entered a penalty area on hole 2 (his 11th), requiring composure to avoid momentum loss.
"After my second shot went right into the penalty area, I knew escaping with bogey was acceptable. A double-bogey could've shaken my mindset," he recounted.
Topping the leaderboard after round one, Jayawardana aims to maintain consistency as competition intensifies over the next two days in this prestigious junior event.
