John Herdman has begun laying the foundation for the Indonesian National Team squad for the 2026 ASEAN Cup, scheduled for July 24 to August 26. The Garuda squad coach has called up 23 players for a training camp in Jakarta from May 26-30.
This call-up serves as a crucial opportunity for local players to capture the coaching staff's attention and compete for spots in Indonesia's main squad.
Herdman has given significant space to domestic talents by summoning both experienced names and several new faces.

"During the five days, players will undergo intensive training sessions and internal matches as part of the coaching team's evaluation process," PSSI stated in an official release on Tuesday.
Throughout their five days in Jakarta, players will be tested in high-intensity training sessions and internal matches.
This program is designed to assess players' technical, tactical, and mental readiness before the regional tournament commences.
Indonesia is placed in Group A of the 2026 ASEAN Cup alongside Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia, and the playoff winner between Brunei Darussalam or Timor-Leste.
The group promises fierce competition, especially considering Indonesia remains in pursuit of their first title after six runner-up finishes.
For Herdman, the tournament previously known as the AFF Cup holds significance beyond a regional competition.
As it falls outside FIFA's calendar, this event becomes an ideal stage for local players to showcase their best capabilities.
"As head coach and coaching staff, we've watched numerous matches this season and gained insight into domestic players' potential. This is a pivotal moment for players to demonstrate their quality and secure spots in the ASEAN Cup squad," Herdman said.
Dewa United Banten FC and Persija Jakarta contributed the most players with four each. Dewa United's selections include Brian Fatari, Wahyu Prasetyo, Egy Maulana Vikri, and Ricky Kambuaya.
Meanwhile, Fajar Fathurrahman, Shayne Pattynama, Witan Sulaeman, and Eksel Runtukahu represent Persija.
Key players like Marselino Ferdinan, Witan Sulaeman, and Muhammad Riyandi also made the list. Their presence provides balance between experience and fresh energy in the provisional squad.
Notably, most of these 23 players are new faces absent from Indonesia's squad during last month's FIFA Series 2026.
Only Cahya Supriadi, Nadeo Argawinata, and Jens Raven remain from Herdman's first two matches with the Garuda team.
Four players received their maiden call-ups: Brian Fatari, Eksel Runtukahu, Alfharezzi Buffon, and Rizky Eka Pratama.
They now have the opportunity to impress and break into the main squad.
The Jakarta training camp isn't just routine preparation. It marks the starting point of John Herdman's major selection process as he seeks the optimal combination to challenge Southeast Asian dominance.
