Morning mist, winding roads cutting through vast tea plantations, cool air, and valley panoramas make the Puncak area in Bogor Regency one of West Java's most iconic tourist destinations. Now, this long-standing tourist landscape is preparing to open a new chapter.
The Ministry of Public Works has begun prioritizing the organization and beautification of the Puncak tourist area as a national strategic area.
This step positions Puncak not just as a Weekend holiday route, but as a showcase representing Bogor and a premier destination in West Java.

This commitment was affirmed during the Preliminary Coordination Meeting for the Supervision and Control of Strategic Area Implementation for the 2026 Fiscal Year in Bandung on Wednesday, April 22, involving the Bogor Regency Government and the central government.
This meeting serves as the initial foundation for the transformation of an area known for its beauty for decades, yet often overshadowed by traffic jams and chaotic spatial planning.
Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto called the Puncak area the face of Bogor Regency at the national level. Therefore, organization must be done seriously and sustainably.
“Through cross-sectoral synergy and shared commitment, the Puncak area is expected to become an orderly, comfortable, and representative area as the face of Bogor Regency in Indonesia,” said Rudy.
This vision is not just about aesthetics. Organizing Puncak is also seen as a strategic step to improve environmental quality, alleviate traffic congestion, arrange public spaces, and encourage sustainable economic growth for the local community.
Along the Puncak route, thousands of small businesses depend on the flow of tourists, ranging from food stalls, local produce sellers, to family lodgings.
When the area is better organized, the benefits will directly extend to the residents' economy.
Bogor Regional Secretary Ajat Rochmat Jatnika believes the central government's attention emerged because of the local government's seriousness in organizing the area.
He emphasized that fixing Puncak requires close collaboration between the central and regional governments.
“The Bogor Regency Government is considered proactive and has a strong commitment to organizing the Puncak area,” he said.
However, fixing Puncak is not as simple as beautifying popular tourist spots. This area must be organized as one complete ecosystem, from the entrance gate to the mountainous border.
According to Ajat, this major task must start from crucial congestion points.
He cited lower areas like Gadog Intersection as important starting points before moving to upper areas like Gunung Mas.
Gadog Intersection has long been the traffic artery to Puncak, where private vehicles, tourist buses, and local traffic converge.
“It's impossible for us to organize the Gunung Mas area without first fixing Gadog Intersection. These points become congestion nodes due to high intersection activity and side disruptions like illegal buildings and street vendors (PKL),” he explained.
This approach signifies a shift in perspective towards Puncak. No longer a destination handled with piecemeal solutions, but a Mountain Tourism area with comprehensive management.
The organization spans from Gadog Intersection to the Cianjur border to create better connectivity and a more comfortable Travel Experience.
For tourists, this change could mean smoother journeys to tea plantations, mountain villas, trekking trails, and family recreation parks.
For local residents, it means more orderly living spaces and economic opportunities growing from quality Tourism.
